Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an experienced Quality Control Technician 2 to join our collaborative, multidisciplinary team in Mesa, AZ .

In this role, you will support critical programs for our defense customers within Armament Systems, a leading supplier of integrated medium‑caliber weapon systems for land, air, and sea platforms through its world‑renowned Bushmaster® line of automatic cannons produced at our Mesa facility.

Responsibilities

- Inspect purchased materials, sub‑assemblies, and final assemblies for conformity to standards, specifications, and processing requirements.
- Verify part identification and dimensions using measuring devices such as micrometers, gauges, calipers, and other precision tools.
- Perform visual inspections to identify defects or damage, including corrosion, cracks, dents, scratches, and pits.
- Interpret and verify requirements using contracts, purchase orders, drawings/prints, specifications, inspection instructions, and checklists.
- Perform inspections that may involve three‑dimensional features using equipment such as bore gauges, telescope gauges, and optical comparators.
- Make accept/reject decisions on inspected goods and accurately document inspection results in accordance with quality procedures.
- Cross‑train across quality functions to support broader team needs.
- Perform and document First Article Inspections (FAI), including AS9102 when required.
- Interact with DCMA and other customer representatives in support of inspections and audits.

Basic Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience as a quality inspector or in a closely related inspection role.
- Experience interpreting purchase orders, contracts, specifications, and engineering drawings.
- Experience with print reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Basic PC skills, including proficiency with MS Office products.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in aerospace, defense, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality management systems.
- Hands‑on experience performing and documenting AS9102 First Article Inspections.
- Experience with additional inspection tools such as height gauges, surface plates, pin gauges, thread gauges, or coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications, including tight tolerances and advanced GD&T callouts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams (e.g., Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain).

Primary Level Salary Range: $44,400.00 - $74,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
