About this role
Build what matters. Grow where it counts.
Who We Are
At AMCS, sustainability means business — and careers that create impact. From our roots in Ireland to our teams across Europe, North America and Australasia, we are bringing together ambitious people to help reshape the industries that sustain our world.
What We Build
We build intelligent, cloud-based SaaS solutions that turn complex operations into smarter, more sustainable performance. Powered by AI, data and deep industry expertise, our technology helps customers optimise routes, manage recycling, improve compliance, unlock insight and move faster toward a more efficient, circular future.
Why Join AMCS
Join AMCS and be part of a global team where purpose meets performance. Here, you can grow your career, challenge what’s possible and work on technology that makes a measurable difference — for our customers, our communities and the planet.
AMCS is restructuring its product organization around a unified cloud platform that encompasses capacities across the lifecycle of waste and recycling management. This role is being created to give UX a seat at that leadership table, to set and enforce design standards across the platform, to co-own the shared UX Framework and component library with the platform team and to professionalize how UX validates and tests product decisions.
What you'll do
Design system & UX framework leadership within a SaaS solution
• Own and drive the AMCS Platform Design System end-to-end: standards, governance, and adoption across all product lines.
• Ensure that the SaaS solution across products and modules delivers a seamless experience from sign-in, setup and user navigation.
• Partner directly with the platform engineering team to shape the UX Framework and shared UX component libraries, ensuring design and engineering evolve them together rather than in parallel.
• Establish the governance model so the design system scales without becoming a bottleneck.
Cross-product UX consistency & product enhancement
• Drive consistency of UX patterns, interaction models, and visual language across products and development initiatives in all three Product Lines.
• Review current AMCS products and proactively propose UX enhancements that improve usability, discoverability, and user productivity — concretely, fewer clicks and less friction to complete core workflows.
• Build the mechanisms (design reviews, UX debt tracking, heuristic audits) that catch inconsistency before it ships, not after.
UX process & best practices
• Work with the product team function to ensure good customer validation and then feedback on product experience to ensure we build/have built the right product and UX.
• Partner with Product Management and Engineering to define how UX shows up in the SDLC: spec validation, design reviews, usability testing labs, and acceptance criteria for “good UX,” not just “functionally complete.”
• Introduce lightweight, repeatable usability research practices (moderated testing, unmoderated studies, benchmarking) that a small team can realistically sustain across many products.
• Define how UX and PM divide and share responsibility for discovery and validation, given PM's much larger headcount.
Agentic SDLC & the future of UX at AMCS
• Help define and drive UX's role in AMCS's move to an Agentic SDLC — including how design work is briefed, reviewed, and validated when AI agents are generating or assisting with implementation.
• Assess how agentic, AI-driven product experiences (not just traditional click-based UI) change AMCS's UX principles, patterns, and design system requirements.
• Propose a target operating model for the UX function itself: team size, skill mix, centralized vs. embedded structure, and how it should evolve as AMCS scales — backed by a clear rationale and business case.
Team & stakeholder leadership
• Lead, coach, and grow the existing UX/UI team, while remaining hands-on: reviewing designs, running workshops, and doing direct design work where the team is stretched thin.
• Operate as a senior voice in the broader product organization — influencing Product Line Leaders, the Engineering & Architecture lead, and senior Product Management peers, not just executing on their requests.
• Represent UX in product and technology leadership forums, and be the escalation point when UX standards and delivery pressure conflict.
What you'll bring
• 10+ years in UX/product design, including 5+ years leading and managing a UX/design team, ideally within enterprise or vertical-market B2B SaaS.
• Direct experience building, scaling, or governing a design system and a shared UI component library in close partnership with a platform/engineering team.
• Knowledge of regional governance/compliance issues (E.g. UX as it pertains to GDPR)
• A track record of driving UX consistency across multiple products or business units in a matrixed organization — not just owning a single product's design.
• Experience establishing UX research and validation practices (usability testing, spec/design review processes) in partnership with Product Management and Engineering.
• Familiarity with how AI/agentic workflows are reshaping product UX — able to reason about design implications, not just traditional screen-based interaction design.
• Experience proposing and standing up a team operating model — comfortable making the case for headcount, structure, and process change to senior leadership.
• Strong influence and stakeholder management skills; able to hold a design standard under delivery pressure from both Product Management and Engineering.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Domain exposure to field service, logistics, transportation, ERP, or environmental/resource-management software is a strong plus, but not required.
How success will be measured (first 12 months)
• AMCS Platform Design System and UX Framework published, adopted, and actively governed across all three Product Lines.
• A defined, repeatable process for UX/spec validation and usability testing adopted jointly by Product Management, Engineering, and UX.
• Measurable usability improvements (e.g., reduced steps/clicks, improved task completion) on at least one flagship workflow per Product Line.
• A proposed and leadership-approved target operating model for the UX function, including its role in the Agentic SDLC.
