The Role

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer, with a dotted-line relationship to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities across the plant. Working closely with operations, engineering teams and contractors, you will ensure maintenance work is delivered safely and effectively, improving equipment reliability, plant availability and overall operational performance.

### What You'll Be Doing
Leading Safety Excellence
- Champion a strong safety culture and lead by example.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are planned and executed safely.
- Supervise contractor activities and ensure compliance with company standards and legislation.
- Promote proactive risk identification and control.

Leading and Developing the Team
- Coach, mentor and coordinate a team of Mechanical Craftsmen.
- Create a positive, collaborative and inclusive working environment.
- Identify skills gaps and support ongoing training and development.
- Set priorities and provide clear direction to the team.

Delivering Mechanical Maintenance
- Plan, organise and supervise day-to-day maintenance activities.
- Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance work.
- Minimise downtime through effective decision-making and troubleshooting.
- Ensure inspections, maintenance checks and follow-up actions are completed and recorded.

Driving Reliability and Continuous Improvement
- Use SAP-PM and other maintenance tools to identify recurring equipment issues.
- Support Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Implement maintenance improvements that enhance reliability and reduce costs.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and equipment records

Technical Leadership
You'll provide expertise across a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment, including:

- Gearboxes and reducers
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Pumps and compressed air systems
- Bulk handling and storage equipment
- Materials handling systems
- Lifting and rigging activities

What We're Looking For

- Experience leading or supervising mechanical maintenance teams within an industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices and safe systems of work.
- Proven ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate maintenance activities.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals and engineering documentation.
- City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience within cement, quarrying, manufacturing, power generation or other continuous process industries.
- Experience using SAP-PM or similar maintenance management systems.
- Knowledge of reliability methodologies such as RCFA, FMEA or predictive maintenance.
- Understanding of LOLER requirements and lifting operations.
- ONC, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- LOLER Appointed Person qualification.
