About this role

Build the team that builds Relesys. We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop one of our engineering teams.

You’ll be accountable for the team’s growth, performance and delivery, creating the conditions for engineers to do their best work and deliver meaningful customer and business outcomes sustainably. You’ll also help the team adopt AI effectively in software development and explore opportunities for AI-powered product innovation.

You turn strategy into a small set of clear priorities, make the trade-offs behind them visible, and create the planning and release rhythm that lets your area ship reliably. You stay accountable for architecture decisions, production health, security posture and technical debt - even when senior engineers are leading the actual design work - and you make sure delivery is backed by solid fundamentals: testing, observability, feature flags, and real incident learning.

This is an exciting and transformative time to join Relesys, as we have gone into a strategic partnership with the Private Equity fund, Copilot Capital, where the coming years will bring extensive growth and opportunities along the way. You get a unique opportunity to make a tremendous impact in taking your career, Relesys and our dear clients to the next level over the coming years - as we say, joining a scale-up at this stage is a rare opportunity that is “once in a lifetime”.

Your key responsibilities

- Lead and develop your people: Hold regular one-on-ones, provide timely and actionable feedback, and coach engineers through technical, professional and interpersonal challenges.
- Own career development and performance: Set clear expectations and individual development goals, conduct performance reviews, support progression and promotion decisions, and address underperformance early and constructively.
- Build a healthy, effective team: Foster trust, inclusion and accountability, resolve conflict, and actively support engagement, wellbeing and sustainable workloads.
- Hire and onboard engineers: Partner with People & Talent on hiring, plan team capabilities and capacity, and help new colleagues become effective contributors.
- Turn strategy into a small set of clear, prioritized outcomes for your area, and make the trade-offs behind them visible
- Create planning and release rhythms that make delivery more predictable, without relying on heavy process or overtime
- Own architecture trade-offs, production health, security posture and technical-debt decisions for your area - even when senior engineers lead the actual design
- Make sure delivery is backed by solid engineering fundamentals: testing, observability, feature flags, and real incident learning
- Use delivery, operational and customer evidence to continuously adjust plans and priorities
- Drive AI-assisted engineering: Help the team evaluate and adopt AI tools across development, testing, code review and documentation. Build practical skills, establish appropriate quality and data-handling practices, and assess their impact on delivery and maintainability.
- Enable AI product innovation: Partner with Product, Design and engineers to identify valuable AI use cases, run focused experiments, and take promising solutions into production with clear evaluation criteria for customer value, reliability, privacy and cost.

Who are you?

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
- +5 years of relevant experience as a software engineer or similar and ideally understanding of modern SaaS product development in an agile environment
- You have experience directly managing software engineers, including regular one-on-ones, coaching, career development, performance reviews and constructive handling of performance challenges.
- You have a track record of helping engineers grow and building teams with clear expectations, strong collaboration and sustainable delivery practices.
- You have practical experience applying AI tools to software development and can help a team experiment, assess results and adopt effective practices.
- You have hands-on technical depth and can credibly engage with architecture and infrastructure decisions, even if you're not writing production code day to day
- You have experience owning technical accountability for a team's area - architecture, production health, security, technical debt - while senior ICs lead the design work
- You know how to turn broad strategy into a handful of concrete priorities, and how to make trade-offs and their reasoning visible to a team
- You have experience improving delivery practices: testing discipline, observability, feature flags, incident learning
- You communicate clearly in written and spoken English
- You are based in or near London or Copenhagen

Furthermore, it would be great, but not required, if you:

- Are familiar with DORA metrics and how to work with them
- Have experience with observability tooling
- Come from an SRE background and have operated SLOs and error budgets in production
- Have led an engineering team through a period of significant growth or organizational change
- Have experience delivering AI-powered product capabilities.
