Lead Cost Management / Quantity Surveying (m/w/d)

Role Purpose  
The Lead of Cost Management / Quantity Surveying provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for cost management services across projects and clients. The role is accountable for commercial performance, service quality, risk management, and the development of high-performing teams, while supporting client relationships and business growth.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic & Commercial Leadership

- Lead and grow the Cost Management / Quantity Surveying practice in line with business objectives.

- Contribute to market strategy, service innovation, and positioning of cost management services.

- Oversee financial performance, including revenue, margins, fee proposals, and cost control.

- Support business development activities, including bids, tenders, and client presentations.

Client & Stakeholder Management

- Act as a senior client interface, building long-term, trusted client relationships.

- Provide strategic cost advice to clients at portfolio, program, and project levels.

- Manage client expectations, ensuring services are delivered to agreed scope, quality, and timelines.

- Resolve complex commercial, contractual, or cost-related issues.

Project & Technical Oversight

- Provide governance and assurance across major projects and programs.

- Ensure consistent application of cost management best practices, standards, and methodologies.

- Review and approve key deliverables, including cost plans, estimates, cash flows, and final accounts.

- Advise on procurement strategies, risk management, value engineering, and commercial outcomes.

Risk, Quality & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, professional standards, and internal policies.

- Identify and manage commercial, contractual, and delivery risks.

- Drive continuous improvement in quality, accuracy, and efficiency of cost management services.

People Leadership & Development

- Lead, mentor, and develop cost management teams across multiple levels.

- Support workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, and succession planning.

- Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture.

- Champion professional development and knowledge sharing.

Collaboration & Governance

- Collaborate with other disciplines and business lines to deliver integrated client solutions.

- Contribute to leadership forums, governance processes, and strategic initiatives.

- Represent the Cost Management / Quantity Surveying function internally and externally.

Key Skills & Experience

- Extensive experience in cost management / quantity surveying within the built environment.

- Strong commercial acumen, leadership capability, and client management skills.

- Deep understanding of contracts, procurement routes, and construction economics.

- Professional qualification and relevant chartership (as applicable).

This role operates at a senior leadership level and is responsible for delivering commercial value, technical excellence, and sustainable growth of the Cost Management / Quantity Surveying function.
