About this role

THE POSITION

As Real World Evidence Lead (Oncology), you will take scientific leadership for the design and delivery of high-quality real-world evidence and epidemiological studies that support healthcare decision-making, market access and improved patient outcomes across the UK and Ireland, while contributing to global evidence-generation priorities.

This is a senior scientific and operational leadership role with a particular focus on large, complex oncology real-world evidence studies. You will apply strong epidemiological judgement and a deep understanding of drug development, clinical research and healthcare decision-making to generate robust evidence that advances understanding of disease, treatment outcomes and patient care. Working closely with investigators, study sites, academic collaborators and global stakeholders, you will lead the delivery of evidence-generation programmes that complement clinical trial findings and address important evidence gaps across the product lifecycle.

The position is offered on a fixed-term basis for 12 months. The role requires regular onsite presence at our Winnersh Head Office, with a minimum of 2 days per week spent working onsite.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Lead the design, implementation and delivery of complex, high-quality real-world evidence and epidemiological studies that address UK, Ireland and global evidence needs.

- Identify evidence gaps and translate them into clear research questions, fit-for-purpose study designs, appropriate data sources and robust analytical approaches.

- Lead oncology non-interventional studies, ensuring that study strategy and delivery are aligned with local and global stakeholder needs.

- Apply knowledge of oncology research and clinical development and, where relevant, biomarker and translational research to answer relevant post-approval and healthcare questions.

- Provide scientific and operational leadership throughout the full study lifecycle, including concept development, protocol writing, internal approval, analysis, reporting and publication.

- Work closely with UK, Ireland and global colleagues across Medical, Market Access, Health Systems Engagement, Franchise and Corporate Epidemiology teams to align evidence-generation priorities.

- Partner closely with Clinical Development, Translational Medicine, Biomarker, Legal, Compliance and Procurement colleagues to ensure successful study implementation and governance.

- Manage external partners, including CROs, academic collaborators, data partners and other vendors, ensuring studies are delivered to agreed quality, timelines and budgets.

- Partner closely with Clinical Development, Translational Medicine, Biomarker, Legal, Compliance and Procurement colleagues to ensure successful study implementation and governance.

- Communicate study findings clearly to scientific, clinical, commercial, policy and executive audiences, and lead dissemination through abstracts, posters, presentations and peer-reviewed manuscripts.

- Ensure all studies comply with company policies, governance and privacy requirements, applicable regulations, BI SOPs and the ABPI and IPHA Codes of Practice.

- Manage competing priorities across a portfolio of studies while maintaining high scientific standards, effective stakeholder engagement and efficient use of resources.

REQUIREMENTS

- A degree or equivalent qualification in mathematics, statistics or a related scientific discipline, together with a relevant postgraduate qualification such as an MSc or PhD in Epidemiology or a related field.

- Strong practical expertise in epidemiology, real-world evidence methods, study design, medical statistics and the analysis of large healthcare datasets.

- Proven experience delivering epidemiological studies from research proposal and protocol development through to analysis, reporting and publication.

- Experience leading the operational delivery of observational, non-interventional or real-world evidence studies, including end-to-end study implementation and stakeholder management.

- Demonstrated experience working with investigators, NHS research sites, academic institutions or healthcare providers to establish and deliver research collaborations.

- Experience managing study governance activities, including ethics submissions, site approvals, contracting, vendor oversight, data-sharing arrangements and privacy considerations.

- Pharmaceutical industry experience and experience overseeing CROs, academic collaborators, data partners or other external vendors.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to explain complex scientific concepts clearly to varied audiences.

- Strong stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills, with a collaborative and proactive working style.

- The ability to prioritise effectively and work across a portfolio of complex studies.
