System Administrator Job Overview:
The Junior Systems Administrator supports the administration , maintenance , and troubleshooting of the organization's IT infrastructure, including servers , storage, networks, desktop systems, and mobile devices. Working under the guidance of senior IT staff, this position performs routine systems administration, provides hands-on technical support, maintains accurate asset and configuration records, and helps ensure the reliable and secure operation of business technology. The role also provides help desk support to internal users and contributes to larger infrastructure and technology projects.
This is a fully onsite position located in Mountville, Pennsylvania. Candidates must be within commuting distance and able to participate in the required on-call rotation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Helpdesk Support
Provide first - and second-tier technical support for desktop and mobile devices, printers, applications, and network connectivity. Document troubleshooting steps, user communications, resolution details, and escalations in the help desk system, and maintain ownership of each request through resolution or transfer to the appropriate resource .
- Ensure professional, clear, and solution-oriented communication with internal users . Guide users through appropriate troubleshooting steps , document the interaction, and escalate issues that require additional expertise .
- Technical Support for End Users
Set up and configure hardware and software for end users, verify that each system is operational and fully integrated, and confirm that required applications, access, and security controls are in place before deployment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with PCs, mobile devices, printers, phones, and peripheral equipment.
- Email Administration
Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 user services, including account setup, password resets, multifactor authentication, email access , and Outlook login and profile issues.
- Manage permissions and user roles within email platforms, ensuring security compliance.
- Asset and Licensing Management
Maintain accurate hardware and software inventory, licensing, and contract records.
- Provide proactive alerts for expiring licenses or agreements, ensuring seamless renewals or upgrades.
- Equipment and Vendor Management
Administer the repair process for warehouse handheld devices and printers, including coordinating with vendors , tracking equipment status, and maintaining accurate repair records.
- Communicate repair statuses effectively to internal customers, ensuring timely updates.
- Virtualization and Server Support
Perform routine virtualization administration tasks, including monitoring virtual machine status, restarting virtual machines through approved procedures, identifying resource-related issues, and escalating configuration changes or complex problems to senior IT staff.
- Assist with server management under the guidance of senior IT staff.
- Network and Infrastructure Support
Assist senior IT staff with the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network and infrastructure components, including switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, and storage systems.
- Support network troubleshooting by identifying and documenting connectivity and performance issues, completing approved first-line remediation, and escalating unresolved problems to senior IT staff.
- Active Directory and Network Services Management
Perform routine administration and first-line troubleshooting of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP under the guidance of senior IT staff.
- Perform approved user, computer, permissions, and network configuration tasks, and escalate changes or issues that require additional expertise.
- Collaboration and Team Participation
Participate in IT team meetings, contributing insights and updates on system administration activities.
- Follow IT department processes and procedures, and complete assigned tasks in accordance with company standards , security requirements, and departmental goals.
- Systems Administration Backup Coverage and On-Call Responsibilities
Serve as a backup to the Systems Administrator II, stepping in as needed for critical support.
- Participate in the IT on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for critical incidents in accordance with established escalation and response procedures .
Qualifications and Experience:
- At least one year of hands-on experience providing technical support in a Microsoft Windows environment is required. Experience may include an internship, help desk role, technical support position, or junior systems administration responsibilities.
- An associate degree or technical certification in information technology, computer science, networking , or a related field is preferred. A combination of relevant education, certifications, internships, and practical experience may be considered in place of a degree.
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365 services, including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, multifactor authentication, password resets, and user account access, is required. Experience with Exchange Online administration is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to configure and troubleshoot Windows PCs, mobile devices, printers, peripheral equipment, and common business applications is required.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP is required , including routine user and computer account administration, permissions management , and basic troubleshooting. Advanced design or engineering experience is not required.
- Foundational knowledge of Windows Server, virtualization, networking, backup systems, and storage is required. Hands-on experience performing routine administrative tasks in any of these areas is preferred; advanced administration experience is not required.
- Ability to prioritize and independently manage a moderate daily support workload while balancing scheduled systems-administration tasks, equipment deployments, documentation, and project assignments.
- Ability and willingness to learn to support technology used in a warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, or logistics environment, including handheld scanning devices, label or document printers, and vehicle-mounted or forklift computers, is required. Prior experience with these technologies is helpful but not required.
- Strong documentation, customer-service , and communication skills are required, along with sound judgment about when to resolve an issue independently and when to escalate it to senior IT staff.
