This is a 12-week full-time internship for the 2027 Summer. The internship will be Monday through Friday, with typical working hours of 8:00AM to 4:30PM. This is a 100% on-site position based at our Corporate Headquarters in Chambersburg, PA.
Summary
The AI Developer Intern is responsible for supporting the evaluation, development, and implementation of artificial intelligence solutions that enhance business operations across the organization. Working under the guidance of experienced IT and MIS team members, the intern gains hands-on experience with emerging AI technologies while contributing real value to projects from day one. This position offers a unique opportunity to explore one of the fastest-growing fields in technology within a supportive, learning-focused environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Assists in the research, evaluation, and prototyping of AI tools, models, and frameworks to determine their usefulness in solving business problems.
- Supports the design, development, testing, and deployment of AI-powered features, reports, and internal applications.
- Collects, cleans, and prepares data used for AI and machine learning workflows, and assists in maintaining data quality and documentation.
- Assists in building and refining prompts, pipelines, and integrations that connect AI services with existing company systems and software.
- Logs and tracks project work, experiments, and results accurately using available documentation and project management tools.
- Analyzes and evaluates the performance and accuracy of AI solutions and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Tests software and AI tools to evaluate ease of use and whether they will aid users in performing work.
- Writes or revises user guides, training materials, and procedures related to AI tools and solutions.
- Collaborates with MIS, business, and operations teams to identify opportunities where AI can improve efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making.
- Presents project progress, findings, and demonstrations to mentors, peers, and management in a clear and understandable manner.
- Develops ad-hoc reports and data analyses on an as-needed basis.
- Assists in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of software, updates, and patches related to AI tools and supported applications.
- Ensures compliance with software licensing and company data privacy and security standards for all AI tools and services used.
- Maintains accurate records of projects, experiments, and AI tool usage, and provides reports to MIS management when requested.
- Stays current with emerging AI technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and shares relevant knowledge with the team.
- Utilizes software tools for documentation and communication.
- Cooperates in the development of and adherence to high quality standards and goals.
- Contributes to a positive, curious, and collaborative team environment.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Foundational knowledge of at least one programming language, experience with AI-assisted development tools.
- Genuine interest in artificial intelligence and enthusiasm for learning new tools and technologies quickly.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical ideas simply.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take ownership of assigned work.
Nice to have (not required): Exposure to machine learning concepts through coursework, personal projects, or hackathons; familiarity with AI tools, APIs, or large language models; experience with data analysis or databases; contributions to open-source or personal portfolio projects.
