Performs routine work involving the observation, security, and supervision of adult residents in a 24-hour correctional residential facility. Monitors resident activities within the facility or, as approved, outside the facility, with emphasis on security, behavior change, leadership, and modeling of prosocial attitudes, beliefs, values, and behaviors.

Direct Care Supervision

- Supervises and monitors adult clients in a residential and work release facility to ensure safety, security, accountability, and compliance with program rules.

- Monitors recreational and group activities.

- Perform routine searches of clients, their property, living quarters, and common areas.

- Prepares and reviews reports and other communications to maintain awareness of activities within the facility and its residents.

Client Management

- Investigates client rule violations, prepares disciplinary reports, and ensures appropriate violation responses are applied consistently.

- Identifies and acknowledges positive client behavior through appropriate incentives and recognition.

- Provides situational support to clients regarding behavior and program expectations to promote understanding, compliance, and successful participation.

- Provides crisis intervention or suicide prevention, application of approved emergency intervention, or restraint when appropriate.

- Administers and documents first aid to clients as needed.

Direct Care Monitoring

- Escorts or transports clients to and from court, visitation, school, programming, and other approved activities; serves as a liaison and communicates with appropriate parties to monitor client activities in the community.

- Inspects facility living areas to ensure doors, windows, and other areas are secure to prevent unauthorized departure and to promote facility security.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Certified diploma or transcript verifying equivalent credits is required. Six (6) months experience in the Corrections or Human Services field providing supervision, treatment, or related services to adult or youth clients in a residential or facility setting. Professional references are required to verify the related work experience. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess first aid, CPR, and physical restraint certification or the ability to acquire within initial period of employment. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. (Mileage reimbursement is provided by County if use of personal passenger vehicle.) Pass a legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screens. Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356(d), (1-5).

Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year of experience working with justice-involved youth or adult offender population. Professional references are required to verify the related work experience. Associate of Arts (AA) degree with course work in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or related field. Transcript verifying education credits is required.
