Our thriving Highways & Complete Streets team, part of AECOM’s Transportation Business Line, has a vacancy for a Technical / Regional Director to take a leading role within the team in our St Albans or London (Aldgate) office.

The Highways & Complete Streets team is growing to cater for an increased workload, particularly in Active Travel , Bus Priority , Highway Improvement and Infrastructure schemes . It provides concept, preliminary and detailed designs, community engagement, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of multi-disciplinary transportation and urban realm projects and supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface.

The successful candidate will be joining our dedicated team, who are recognised as market leaders in the transportation sector, and are actively involved in the delivery of small to large high profile and impactful projects for a range of both local and national clients.

As a Technical / Regional Director , you will have proven team leadership, business development, client management, project management and project delivery experience. You will have appropriate qualifications and demonstrable experience in a leading role.

The role would suit a self-motivated and independent individual, a natural leader, looking to utilise the latest technologies to advance their career in a dynamic team.

Whilst AECOM offers the benefits of a flexible hybrid working model, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will typically work from the office on two to three days per week, in line with the current working pattern for the Highways & Complete Streets team.

Your Role & Responsibilities :

Client relationship building and work winning

- Take a leading role in the London and SE client account management programme, developing sound client relationships, being alert to commercial opportunities, identifying emerging opportunities and developing strategies to fully exploit them.
- Contribute to work winning through bid management, tender production and preparation of proposals.
- Raise the profile of AECOM by taking a lead role on thought leadership including the pro-active use of social media and other publicity/communication channels.

Project / programme delivery

- Undertake client-facing project duties, representing AECOM as the key point of contact.
- Provide technical leadership across Highways and Complete Streets projects or work packages/programmes, taking ownership of the quality of technical deliverables. Ensure all outputs meet the requirements of the project brief and comply with relevant standards, regulations, client expectations, safety requirements, and AECOM quality management procedures.

Team management

- Contribute proactively to resourcing, recruitment and management of the local and wider teams.
- Support senior management of the Highways & Complete Streets team, deputising for Hub Director / Office leads as required.

Internal collaboration

- Establish strong working relationships with other internal teams across AECOM’s geographies and business lines including Transport Planning, Structures, Infrastructure, Water, Power, Landscape and our overseas design centres.

Mentoring & staff development

- Pro-actively undertake line manager or mentoring responsibilities, providing regular guidance, management and career planning and completing annual performance evaluations.
- Support the technical and professional development of local Highways & Complete Streets team, sharing knowledge and mentoring staff towards professional qualifications.
- Work with office leads to monitor team skills and ensure they are up to date with current best practice, techniques, and innovation.
