High School Play Director

Providence Hall is a charter school located in Herriman, UT. Central to the school's mission is teaching students to think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly. Students at the high school engage in classes that prepare them for college and career readiness through the AP Scholars program, concurrent enrollment, and CTE.

Providence Hall High School is seeking a Director for our high school play for the 2026–2027 school year.

The High School Play Director is a seasonal position and is paid a one time $3,000 stipend.

Auditions, practices, rehearsals, and performances are held after school, in the evenings, and on weekends.

The Play Director is responsible for the entire production, from selecting and casting the show through the final performance. This position sets the artistic vision, directs the student cast, and coordinates all aspects of the production with school administration, staff, and volunteers.

Responsibilities:

- Artistic Vision: Establish and communicate a cohesive artistic concept for the production, including interpretation, tone, and style.

- Show Selection: Recommend a play appropriate for the students and school community, and coordinate script licensing and rights with administration.

- Auditions and Casting: Plan and run auditions and callbacks, and make all casting decisions.

- Directing and Staging: Block all scenes and direct students in character development, scene work, voice, movement, and dramatic storytelling.

- Rehearsal Planning: Create and manage the full rehearsal and production calendar.

- Technical and Design Coordination: Oversee set, lighting, sound, costumes, and props, working with any technical staff, student crew, or volunteers.

- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for cast, crew, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and production needs.

- Student Supervision: Maintain a safe, supportive, and disciplined rehearsal environment and ensure students are supervised at all rehearsals and performances.

- Budget and Resources: Manage the production within the approved budget.

- Performances: Direct technical and dress rehearsals and oversee all performances, including backstage operations.

- Other duties related to the production as assigned.

Qualifications:

- Directing Experience: Demonstrated experience directing theatre, preferably with youth or student performers.

- Theatre Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of acting technique, staging, script analysis, and stagecraft.

- Leadership and Organization: Ability to lead a production team, manage a production timeline, and keep multiple moving pieces on track.

- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to instruct students and communicate clearly with parents, staff, and administration.

- Commitment: Availability for auditions and all required after-school, evening, and weekend rehearsals.

- Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, and professional references as a condition of employment.

- Physical Requirements: Capacity to perform all the responsibilities listed in this posting. The role involves extended standing, walking, and movement around the stage and theater, and the ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds (e.g., set pieces, props, equipment).
