With over 25 years’ experience, we support many of the world’s largest asset managers, providing a comprehensive range of specialist services from a global network of offices.

The Platform Engineering team builds and operates Waystone’s engineering platform, spanning cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, on-call and our internal developer portal. We provide the secure, automated foundations that the firm’s regulated services run on. We are looking for a Platform Engineer to help scale this platform through standardised, automated and compliant patterns, accelerating delivery for our development delivery teams while raising operational resilience across the estate.

We are a cross-skilled team by design: rather than narrow specialisation, we want every engineer able to work across the platform, giving us broader coverage, resilience and shared ownership.

Key Responsibilities

- Take ownership of larger, moderately complex pieces of platform work, setting objectives and delivering against project goals with a direct impact on team results.

- Design, implement and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure patterns and reusable Terraform modules across Azure, AWS and OCI, with a primary focus on Azure.

- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) libraries to ensure consistent, compliant and repeatable environments across all cloud providers.

- Build and support CI/CD and deployment automation using GitHub Actions, Octopus Deploy and ArgoCD, and configuration management using Ansible and Octopus Deploy.

- Support and enable development delivery teams – provisioning autonomous environments and reducing deployment friction while maintaining guardrails and separation of duties.

- Provide operational support for containerised and micro-service workloads on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), maintaining high availability and reliability.

- Manage core infrastructure lifecycle tasks – vulnerability remediation and patching, upgrades, scaling and decommissioning across the Windows and Linux estate.

- Drive the adoption of cloud governance policies, security standards and architectural best practice, and help maintain continuous compliance evidence against the firm’s obligations (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, DORA).

- Contribute to observability and monitoring across the estate, and to incident response and on-call, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis that drives systemic improvement.

- Support disaster recovery testing to validate recovery plans and ensure rapid, reliable restoration of services.

- Identify and recommend improvements to systems, processes and infrastructure patterns to improve operational resilience, performance and cost efficiency.

- Explain and advocate technical approaches to development delivery teams and colleagues across IT, influencing platform practices and standards at an operational level.

- Provide guidance, code review and support to junior engineers, helping them develop across the platform.

- Document infrastructure blueprints, standards and standard operating procedures in Confluence and our internal Platform Portal to enable self-service.

- Participate in the on-call rota to support critical infrastructure services.

Essential Knowledge & Experience

- University degree or equivalent practical experience, with a minimum of three years’ experience as a Platform Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, DevOps Engineer or similar role.

- Strong experience designing and implementing infrastructure in Azure and AWS.

- Deep, hands-on expertise with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.

- Experience building and debugging CI/CD and deployment pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, Octopus Deploy, Azure DevOps or similar).

- Strong Windows OS management in cloud environments; solid Linux fundamentals (deeper experience a plus).

- Proficient in a scripting language such as PowerShell, with experience automating operational workflows.

- Sound understanding of cloud security principles, identity and access management (Entra ID / IAM) and network security.

- Understanding of application architectures and CI/CD workflows, and how infrastructure aligns with them.

- Experience working closely with development delivery teams in an agile environment, using tooling such as Jira and Confluence to manage and track work.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.

- AI-literate, with the ability to adopt and apply AI-assisted engineering tooling (e.g. GitHub Copilot, AI coding assistants and agents) to accelerate delivery, automation and documentation, and a willingness to keep pace with an evolving AI toolset.

- Able to manage multiple concurrent workstreams – balancing project delivery, BAU and support commitments – prioritising effectively and working independently across competing demands.

- Able to participate in the on-call rota – on-call is a requirement of this role.

Desirable

- Experience operating in a regulated financial services or otherwise highly governed environment.

- Certification in Azure, AWS or DevOps practices.

- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (AKS), ArgoCD and containerised services.

- Experience with Ansible for configuration management and DR tooling.

- Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

- Knowledge of FinOps and cloud cost-management best practice.

- Experience integrating AI or agentic tooling into engineering workflows (e.g. IaC generation, automated remediation, or documentation).

- Exposure to compliance-evidence or governance tooling and incident-management tooling.

Additional Information

- This is a hybrid role, with attendance at our Leeds office once a month.

- Participation in the on-call rota is a requirement of this role; standing on-call allowances apply.
