Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Admissions is responsible for the admissions, recruitment, and support of prospective students. Duties include interviews, campus tours, travel to/participation in recruitment events, and participation and implementation of the overall admissions and recruitment program.
- This position is Exempt.
- The Assistant Director of Admissions reports to the Associate Director of Admissions
- The starting salary for this position is $50,000 annual, depending on experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Associate Director of Admissions in implementing departmental goals, action objectives, and strategies to meet annual and long-term goals and objectives, per the College's strategic plan.
- Assist the Associate Director of Admissions in the implementation of policies and procedures and interpret those policies and procedures for the efficiency of day-to-day operations.
- Provide information, assistance, and referrals as appropriate for applicants such as financial aid and student services.
- Assist the Associate Director of Admissions in marketing instructional programs and engaging in outreach.
- Promote the College programs and disseminate appropriate information.
- Lead and actively participate in recruiting new applicants in target markets.
- Assist in identifying and communicating changes related to admission, recruitment, and outreach issues (e.g., limited enrollment program updates, etc.) to prospective students, faculty, and staff members.
- Provide training regarding the admissions process.
- Assist the Associate Director of Admissions in planning and participating in recruitment and retention activities; assist with performing necessary assessment and evaluation of programs and services, as needed.
- Coordinate the campus and community recruiting activities with other College departments, as well as outreach to middle/high school students, and undergraduate college admission advisors.
- Assist in review, screening, and scoring of applications to select the class. Assess the academic preparedness of applicants. Assess applicants for motivation, initiative, leadership potential, work/life experience, extracurricular activities, socioeconomic status, disability, and educational/personal hardship. Use professional judgment when reviewing complex applications for admission.
- Assist with the interview day process; assist with the schedule with faculty interviewers and applicants; assist in training faculty interviewers; support the lead admissions advisor in coordinating student volunteers.
- Assists with Admissions daily processes. This includes performing functions in the College’s admissions management program as identified by the Associate Director of Admissions.
- Help manage applicant statuses on all electronic platforms.
- Aid in managing master lists and all applicant review/evaluation lists.
- Aid in admissions communications and applicant follow-up, to promote timely responses and correct actions.
- Attend any meetings as required; this may include Selections Committee Meetings and/or Admissions Governance meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to work with potential applicants, advisors, etc.
- Ability to organize time, plan programs, and large group functions.
- Must have the ability to relate well with a diverse student population and other constituencies, particularly of the southwestern US and northern Mexico border region.
- Ability to maintain a high energy level and enthusiasm for BCOM.
- Ability to respond to difficult situations calmly and with credibility.
- Respect for and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to travel throughout the year, including weekends and evenings.
Qualifications
Required Education, Credentials and Licensure
- Bachelor’s degree required, a combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience working in an academic/university setting.
Preferences
- Experience with AMP or similar Admissions management systems.
- Experience working with students in an admissions-related environment.
- Experience/ability in giving presentations to large groups.
- Experience/ability to give tours.

- This job is conducted in an office work environment.
- Approximately 90% of this position’s duties require the use of a computer.
- Must be able to exert up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- Frequently required to stand or walk.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
- Travel is required during travel season.
Work Schedule:
- Typically, Monday through Friday, 8 am-5 pm
- Required evenings and weekends for special or recruitment events.
