The Role at a Glance
This role is responsible for providing timely and accurate investment accounting, analysis, and reporting for Lincoln Financial's General Account investment portfolio across Statutory, GAAP, Management, and Tax reporting bases. The position requires expertise in the accounting and reporting of fixed income securities, structured products, alternative investments, and mortgage loans, while ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will support investment accounting operations, technical accounting research, financial reporting, and strategic initiatives while partnering across finance, investments, actuarial, tax, and reporting functions. This role also contributes to the continued development of the investment accounting team through knowledge sharing and mentorship.
The ideal candidate will bring investment accounting experience gained within an insurance company, insurance asset manager, or similar organization supporting General Account invested assets and related financial and regulatory reporting. Individuals with a strong foundation in insurance investment accounting, statutory and GAAP reporting, and insurance investment portfolios will be most successful in this role.
What you'll be doing
- Perform investment accounting for General Account invested assets under Statutory, GAAP, Tax, and Management reporting frameworks.
- Research and evaluate complex investment transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory guidance.
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including accounting and reporting for fixed income securities, structured products, alternative investments, private placements, and mortgage loans.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies while collaborating with portfolio managers, asset managers, custodians, and internal business partners.
- Prepare and review investment-related disclosures, statutory schedules, regulatory filings, earnings analyses, management reporting, and supporting documentation.
- Conduct technical accounting research and provide recommendations on new investment strategies, transactions, asset classes, and emerging accounting requirements.
- Respond to investment-related requests from rating agencies and support the completion of surveys, questionnaires, and other external reporting requirements.
- Maintain and enhance investment accounting controls, support SOX compliance, and identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Lead or participate in projects, system enhancements, and strategic initiatives impacting investment accounting and reporting.
- Prepare technical accounting memoranda and communicate complex accounting matters to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Review work, provide mentorship, and share technical expertise to support team development.
What we’re looking for
Must-Haves
- 3+ years of investment accounting experience within an insurance company, insurance asset management organization, or similar environment supporting insurance investment portfolios.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of insurance investment accounting and financial reporting under Statutory and GAAP frameworks.
- Experience accounting for fixed income securities, structured products, alternative investments, and mortgage loans.
- Knowledge of NAIC investment classifications, Schedule D reporting, and insurance regulatory reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Nice to-Haves
- CPA, CFA, progress toward a professional designation, or demonstrated expertise and relevant experience in investment accounting and reporting.
- Experience with insurance investment accounting systems such as Clearwater, PAM, Eagle, Geneva, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with SEC, Statutory, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Experience supporting General Account investment portfolios for life insurance, annuity, or property & casualty insurance companies.

The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $120,000 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
