About the Team

The Market Share & Market Intelligence team is a key pillar of Customer Insights at Lowe’s, focused on understanding market dynamics, competitive performance, and the factors influencing Lowe’s market position.

The team combines internal Lowe’s data with syndicated and third-party data sources to evaluate market share performance across categories, brands, competitors, and customer segments. We partner closely with Merchandising, Marketing, Store Operations, and other business functions to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights that support business decisions.

Our work spans recurring market share reporting and validation, category and competitor deep dives, vendor data onboarding and quality assessment, dashboards, and high-visibility strategic analyses for business and leadership teams.

Job Summary

The Analyst – Market Share & Market Intelligence will support the development of insights on Lowe’s market performance, competitors, categories, and broader industry trends.

The role requires working with large and diverse datasets from internal and external sources, validating data quality, identifying trends and performance drivers, and translating analysis into meaningful business insights.

The Analyst will work closely with cross-functional partners and external data vendors and will have opportunities to independently own recurring deliverables as well as contribute to strategic category, competitor, and market analyses.

Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, curiosity about the business, and the ability to move beyond reporting what happened to help explain why it happened and what it means for Lowe’s.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Market Share & Competitive Intelligence

- Analyze market share, category, brand, competitor, and industry performance using internal and syndicated data sources.
- Identify key trends, performance drivers, risks, and opportunities across Lowe’s categories and competitors.
- Connect market performance with relevant consumer, competitive, industry, and macroeconomic trends.
- Support category and competitor deep dives that translate data into actionable business recommendations.

2. Data Analysis & Insight Generation

- Extract, clean, combine, and analyze large datasets using Excel, SQL, Power BI, and other analytical tools.
- Triangulate information across multiple internal and external sources to develop a comprehensive view of business performance.
- Translate complex analysis into clear findings, implications, and recommendations for business stakeholders.
- Develop reports, presentations, dashboards, and other analytical deliverables for business and leadership audiences.

3. Data Validation & Quality Control

- Perform rigorous validation of third-party and syndicated data against Lowe’s internal data and other relevant benchmarks.
- Identify data anomalies, investigate root causes, and work with internal teams and vendors to resolve data-quality issues.
- Support product/category mapping and changing business hierarchies to ensure consistency and accuracy of market reporting.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and quality across recurring reports, dashboards, and analyses.

4. Vendor & Cross-functional Collaboration

- Partner with third-party data vendors to understand methodologies, clarify data definitions, resolve issues, and improve data quality.
- Collaborate with teams across India and the US, including Customer Insights, Merchandising, Marketing, Store Operations, and Data/Analytics teams.
- Understand stakeholder requirements and translate business questions into structured analytical approaches.
- Communicate findings clearly to both analytical and non-technical audiences.

5. Reporting, Automation & Process Improvement

- Own and support recurring market share validation, reporting, dashboards, and business updates.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve reporting efficiency and scalability.
- Help develop standardized analytical frameworks, validation processes, and documentation.
- Continuously improve the quality, usability, and business relevance of team deliverables.

6. Business & Industry Understanding

- Build a strong understanding of Lowe’s business, the Home Improvement industry, key competitors, and category dynamics.
- Stay current on retail, consumer, competitive, economic, and industry trends that could influence Lowe’s performance.
- Develop the ability to connect analytical findings with broader business priorities and decisions.

Experience

- 1–3 years of relevant experience in Analytics, Market Research, Customer/Consumer Insights, Competitive Intelligence, Consulting, Retail, E-commerce, or related fields.
- Experience working with syndicated or third-party datasets is preferred.
- Retail or consumer industry experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Education

Required / Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, Analytics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Master’s degree in Business / Analytics / Statistics is preferred but not mandatory.

Primary Skills – Must Have

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of SQL and ability to extract and analyze large datasets.
- Ability to validate data, identify inconsistencies, and conduct root-cause analysis.
- Ability to translate data into meaningful business insights rather than simply reporting metrics.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to structure and communicate analytical findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently, manage recurring deliverables, and take ownership from requirement gathering through final output.
- Experience working with syndicated/third-party data sources and understanding their methodologies and limitations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and external vendors.
- Comfort working with ambiguity, evolving datasets, and changing business requirements.

Secondary Skills – Preferred

- Experience with Qualtrics
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization tools.
- Exposure to retail market share, competitive intelligence, customer insights, or category analytics.
- Understanding of product/category hierarchies and experience working with product-level datasets.
- Exposure to automation or analytical tools such as Python is a plus.
- Experience with statistical analysis or modeling is an added advantage.
