About this role
Healthcare’s helping hand.
CHG shook things up in 1979 by inventing the locum tenens staffing model. We connect doctors with patients who need their care. As the largest physician staffing firm in America, our providers treat millions of patients each year.
Our industry is growing and demand is high. This means you’ll have plenty of opportunities to grow and develop in your career. Keeping healthcare healthy can be as fun as it is rewarding
CareerMD has been one of the most trusted brands in physician recruitment for more than 20 years. We provide career resources for physicians and advanced practice providers, a comprehensive suite of recruitment marketing tools for healthcare employers, and operate the nation’s largest network of in-person career fairs—spanning over 100 cities annually.
Now backed by CHG Healthcare—named to Fortune’s “Best Companies to Work For” list for over a decade—CareerMD is entering an exciting period of rapid growth. We are investing in our platform, expanding our reach, and building the marketing function that will drive the next chapter of our growth on both sides of our marketplace.
Position Summary
The Senior Director, Marketing is a senior leadership role responsible for building and running CareerMD’s full marketing function—spanning both sides of our two-sided marketplace. On the B2B side, this leader will generate the qualified leads that fuel our sales pipeline, strengthen CareerMD’s brand among healthcare employers, and improve measurable indicators of market position including NPS and brand awareness. On the B2C side, they will grow our network of engaged physicians and advanced practice providers, driving user registrations, monthly active users, job applications, and career fair attendance.
Email marketing is CareerMD’s highest-volume channel today, and this leader will be expected to run it with rigor while simultaneously building the multi-channel foundation that reduces our concentration risk and drives diversified growth over time.
This is a role for a marketer who knows their numbers cold. The right candidate is equally comfortable building a performance channel strategy in a spreadsheet and presenting results to the executive team. They bring deep digital direct response experience, strong instincts for what moves the needle in a two-sided marketplace, and the organizational credibility to serve as a true cross-functional partner to Sales, Operations, and Product.

- Develop and manage a multi-channel marketing strategy—including email, paid search, paid social, content marketing, SEO, and event-based marketing—optimized for employer acquisition and engagement.
- Build and strengthen CareerMD’s brand among healthcare employers, positioning the platform as the premier destination for physician and advanced practice provider recruitment.

B2C Marketing — Physician & Provider Network Growth

- Manage and continuously optimize CareerMD’s email marketing program—our highest-volume engagement channel—including list segmentation, deliverability, lifecycle automation, A/B testing, and performance reporting. Improve what’s working while building toward a more diversified channel mix.
- Build and expand a paid and organic channel mix—including paid search, paid social, programmatic display, SEO, and content—to reduce email concentration and create durable, diversified acquisition pipelines.
- Apply a rigorous test-and-learn approach: design and run A/B and multivariate experiments across channels, audiences, messaging, and creative to continuously improve performance.
- Develop audience segmentation strategies that tailor messaging and channel selection to physician specialty, career stage, and engagement behavior.
- Build and grow CareerMD’s organic presence through content marketing, SEO, and community-driven initiatives that establish credibility and trust with the physician community.
Performance Marketing & Analytics
- Own the performance marketing function end-to-end: channel strategy, budget allocation, campaign execution, and reporting—with a clear line of sight from spend to business outcomes.
- Establish and maintain a rigorous metrics framework spanning both B2B and B2C: CAC, LTV, MQL/SQL volume and conversion rates, cost per registration, cost per application, email engagement rates, and channel-level ROI.
- Build dashboards and reporting cadences that give leadership clear visibility into marketing performance, pipeline contribution, and audience growth.
- Manage the marketing budget with financial discipline, continuously optimizing channel mix based on performance data.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner closely with Sales to align marketing strategy with revenue goals, ensure strong MQL-to-SQL conversion, and support pipeline growth through targeted campaigns and enablement materials.

- Partner with CHG Healthcare sister brands to ensure they understand and can articulate the value of CareerMD’s offerings, identifying co-marketing and cross-sell opportunities where appropriate.
- Serve as a key contributor to CareerMD’s overall business strategy, bringing market intelligence, audience insights, and competitive perspective to leadership discussions.
Team & Function Leadership
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing marketing team, establishing clear roles, accountability structures, and a culture of data-driven decision-making.
- Identify and implement marketing technology and AI tools that improve execution speed, campaign personalization, and measurement capability.
- Establish best practices across the marketing function—from campaign planning and creative development to analytics, attribution, and reporting.
Who You Are
We care as much about how you think and operate as what’s on your resume. The characteristics below are not nice-to-haves—they describe the mindset we’re building this team around. If you don’t check every experience box above but you recognize yourself in all five of these, we want to hear from you. In our experience, people who operate this way find a way to win.
- Bias for action. You don’t wait for perfect information or a green light to start moving. You identify what you can learn, build, or test right now, and you go. You’d rather make a smart decision quickly and adjust than deliberate until the moment has passed.
- Lifelong learner. You actively seek out new ideas, tools, and perspectives—inside and outside your field. You read, you experiment, you ask questions. You treat every result, good or bad, as a source of signal. You are better at your craft than you were a year ago and expect to be better still a year from now.
- Test, learn, iterate. You don’t fall in love with your own ideas. You design experiments to challenge your assumptions, measure what actually happened, and let the results guide your next move. You know that the best marketing strategies aren’t declared—they’re discovered.
- Empirical thinker. You start with evidence, not opinions. When someone makes a claim, your first instinct is to ask: what does the data say? You build arguments from the ground up and are just as willing to change your mind as you are to defend your position—so long as the reasoning is sound.
- Low ego. Best idea wins. You’re not attached to being right—you’re attached to getting it right. You give credit generously, solicit feedback genuinely, and check your ego at the door when it conflicts with what’s best for the team or the business. You’ve worked places where seniority trumped merit, and you hated it.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in marketing, with meaningful tenure in digital direct response—owning performance channels, managing CAC/LTV economics, and driving measurable acquisition outcomes.
- Demonstrated success running either a B2B or B2C marketing function with a quantifiable track record: pipeline generated, cost per acquisition, revenue influenced, audience growth, or comparable business outcomes.
- Deep hands-on experience across the digital marketing stack: email marketing, paid search, paid social, programmatic, SEO/SEM, and content marketing.
- Proven email marketing expertise: list management, segmentation, deliverability, lifecycle automation, and performance optimization at scale.
- Strong analytical fluency—comfortable building and owning performance models, attribution frameworks, and executive-level reporting. This is not a role for someone who delegates the numbers.
- Experience managing and developing marketing teams.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with Sales, including aligning on lead definitions, pipeline targets, and feedback loops.
Preferred
- Experience marketing within a two-sided marketplace, job board, or recruitment marketing platform—with an understanding of the distinct acquisition and engagement dynamics on each side.
- Experience driving traffic acquisition for a job board or employment marketplace, including SEO, SEM, and paid strategies specific to job seeker and employer audiences.
- Familiarity with the physician and advanced practice provider audience, including how clinicians engage digitally in their career search.
- Experience in healthcare staffing, health media, or a closely adjacent vertical.
- Familiarity with AI and automation tools applied to marketing—including content generation, predictive lead scoring, audience segmentation, or campaign optimization.
- Experience operating within a private equity-backed or strategically-owned business.
