Job Description Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Affairs provides leadership and strategic oversight for a comprehensive portfolio of student affairs programs, services, processes, and initiatives supporting PharmD students from onboarding through graduation. The position serves as a key liaison among students, faculty, academic leadership, university partners, and external stakeholders and is responsible for advancing a student-centered environment that promotes student success, retention, professionalism, engagement, belonging, and well-being. The Assistant Director independently manages assigned areas of responsibility, exercises sound judgment in addressing complex student and operational matters, interprets and implements College and university policies, and ensures effective and consistent application of established processes. The position uses student data, assessment findings, and stakeholder feedback to evaluate programs and services, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop and implement solutions that enhance the student experience and advance the College’s educational mission. The Assistant Director provides leadership in cross-functional initiatives, manages resources within assigned areas, and contributes to the development and implementation of College strategic priorities. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Admissions & Student Affairs.

Job Description
30% – Student Services
Provides leadership and oversight for student services and acts as a senior resource for student concerns, complex questions, and requests for assistance. Interprets and communicates College and university policies, procedures, requirements, and resources; assesses student needs; and coordinates appropriate support and referrals related to academic, personal, financial, professional, wellness, disability, and other student matters. Oversees student services processes that promote retention, engagement, and success, including enrollment and withdrawal matters, financial aid and billing concerns, enrollment verification, scholarships, random drug screening, ADA and Clery responsibilities, and compliance with required training and vaccination. Provides leadership and guidance to student organizations and advisors, oversees event approvals and student professional development funds, coordinates required contracts and insurance documentation, and advances opportunities for student engagement with professional pharmacy associations. Oversees class lists, student photo directories, and key student programs and activities. Serves on College committees related to student services, student success, professionalism, engagement, awards, academic standing, grievances, policies, and web communications, including Engagement & Wellness, Honors & Awards, Scholastic Standing & Petitions, Student Grievance, Student Policies & Professionalism, and Web Advisory. Provides leadership for committee preparation, including the coordination of student records, materials, documentation, communications, and follow-up.
20% – Communication & Event Management
Provides leadership for student communications and major College events, ensuring that information and experiences are timely, accurate, professional, and aligned with College priorities. Oversees the development and distribution of student communications and the accuracy and maintenance of the student handbook, College calendar, distribution lists, and other student-facing resources. Leads the planning and execution of major College events, including orientation, the White Coat Ceremony, the Pinning Ceremony, and the Awards & Hooding Ceremony, with responsibility for establishing timelines, coordinating facilities and contracts, managing event resources, directing logistics, and engaging internal and external stakeholders. Ensures effective coordination across faculty, staff, university partners, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality events and a consistent student experience.
20% – Academic Affairs
Provides leadership in monitoring and evaluating student academic progress and in coordinating support for students who may be academically at risk. Collaborates with academic leadership, faculty, and academic advisors to identify student needs, establish appropriate academic support and advising, coordinate interventions, and ensure timely follow-up. Oversees documentation and communication associated with student progression, promotion, probation, dismissal, and other student status actions and ensures that academic affairs processes are consistently implemented and appropriately documented. Promotes alignment of academic affairs practices with College policies, university requirements, and accreditation standards.
15% – Career & Professional Development
Provides leadership for career planning and professional development programs and services that prepare PharmD students for post-graduate opportunities and long-term professional success. Develops and evaluates career readiness initiatives, including residency, fellowship, and employment preparation, and coordinates services such as CV review, interview preparation, networking, career showcases, and related programming. Cultivates relationships with alumni, employers, and professional partners to expand student opportunities and communicates relevant employment and professional opportunities. Oversees collection, analysis, and reporting of post-graduation employment and placement data and uses findings to assess program effectiveness and guide improvements in career development services.
10% – Strategic Initiatives
Provides leadership for continuous improvement and strategic initiatives within Student Affairs. Uses student data, assessment findings, and stakeholder input to identify trends, evaluate program and service effectiveness, inform decision-making, and implement improvements. Oversees assigned Student Affairs budgets and expenditures and promotes responsible stewardship of resources. Contributes to the development and implementation of College strategic plan objectives related to student engagement, belonging, wellness, and student outcomes and leads initiatives that improve operational effectiveness and the overall student experience. Responsible for meeting key performance indicators established by college leadership. Builds effective partnerships across College and university departments to advance Student Affairs priorities, address emerging student needs, and support institutional goals.
5% – Other Duties as Assigned
Performs other duties as assigned that support the mission, educational priorities, strategic goals, and operational needs of the College of Pharmacy.
