EHS Professional – Construction Support

SEL is seeking an experienced EHS Professional – Construction Support to provide environmental, health, and safety leadership for construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects across SEL facilities. In this role, you will partner closely with project managers, contractors, facilities teams, and site leadership to ensure construction activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and SEL safety expectations.

The EHS Professional will support all phases of construction projects by identifying and mitigating risks, evaluating contractor safety performance, conducting field assessments, and promoting a culture where safety is integrated into every stage of project execution.

This position plays a key role in protecting employees, contractors, visitors, and company assets while supporting SEL's commitment to operational excellence and responsible growth.

As an EHS Professional – Construction Support, a typical day might include the following:

- Supporting construction and capital project teams by providing EHS guidance during project planning, design reviews, contractor selection, and field execution.
- Conducting routine project site inspections and audits to verify compliance with SEL safety requirements, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and applicable construction standards.
- Reviewing contractor safety programs, site-specific safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), permits, and work activities to identify and mitigate risks before work begins.
- Collaborating with project managers, facilities personnel, contractors, and other stakeholders to address safety concerns and develop practical solutions to construction-related hazards.
- Monitoring high-risk activities such as excavation, confined space entry, fall protection, lockout/tagout, energized work, crane operations, and hot work.
- Leading or assisting with incident investigations involving construction activities, facilitating root cause analysis, and supporting corrective and preventive action implementation.
- Providing field coaching and mentoring to contractors and project teams to reinforce safe work practices and SEL safety expectations.
- Tracking project EHS metrics, contractor performance, inspection findings, and corrective actions to evaluate program effectiveness and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Supporting environmental compliance efforts related to construction projects, including waste management, stormwater controls, hazardous materials, and permitting requirements.
- Assisting with the development and delivery of construction safety training, contractor orientation programs, and safety communications.

This job might be for you if you have:

- A bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or similar credentials.
- Experience supporting construction, facility expansion, renovation, or capital improvement projects in manufacturing, industrial, commercial, or institutional environments.
- Knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926) and other applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Experience evaluating contractor safety programs and managing contractor EHS performance.
- Strong hazard recognition and risk assessment skills, particularly in construction environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications and the ability to analyze and communicate safety performance data.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to influence and collaborate with project teams, contractors, and leaders at all levels of the organization.
- The ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and adapt to changing project schedules and business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience supporting large-scale construction projects in active manufacturing or operational environments.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Experience with contractor management systems, permit-to-work programs, and project safety planning.
- Knowledge of environmental permitting, stormwater management, and construction-related environmental compliance requirements.
- Experience facilitating safety culture initiatives and continuous improvement programs.

Physical Requirement s:

- Able to walk and stand for extended periods, climb stairs unassisted and lift and carry up to 40 lbs

Pay Range Data: $89,400 - $134,100

We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are looking to fill this position at the EHS Professional level, and we welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.
