Job Summary
The primary responsibility of this role is to manage all elements of the assigned Customer Service or Self-pay Collections teams within Patient Billing Solutions.
Responsible for the management of the Patient Billing Solutions staff. Oversees staff involved with credit, collections, insurance, patient billing, and bad debt accounts. Will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of patient billing and follow up on outstanding accounts to collect on patient balances. Position requires a great deal of flexibility and a broad scope of knowledge covering all aspects of the Revenue Cycle, including hospital and professional accounts. The position will work as part of a highly integrated management team, which will routinely require management of functions that are performed in part by staff reporting to another manager.
Essential Functions
-Oversee patient billing and collections, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and prompt submission of claims to insurance/third-party payers.
-Track outstanding accounts, including denied claims and insurance appeals, and resolve errors or complex situations for timely processing.
-Analyze patient account data to identify trends, recommend improvements, and provide reports to senior leaders.
-Manage hiring, training, mentorship, and performance evaluation of staff, including setting assignments and monitoring departmental goals.
-Develop policies and procedures for the patient accounts department.
-Oversee outside vendors to ensure onboarding, training, and standards are met.
-Ensure employees are updated on operational, technical, and HR-related information; troubleshoot staffing, technical, and operational issues daily.
-Collaborate with leaders from other MGB hospitals and physician groups to maintain consistency and a positive patient experience.
-Maintain HIPAA privacy standards, prepare monthly reports, and ensure timely handling of Epic work queues, email messages, and Patient CRM requests.
Qualifications
Education
Associate's Degree Business Administration required or Bachelor's Degree Business Administration preferred
Experience
Patient accounts experience 3-5 years required and Patient accounts management experience 1-2 years required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Microsoft Office).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
