Your Future Team

Data Scientists at Atlassian partner with product, engineering, and business teams across multiple domains such as Product Development, Growth, Marketing, and Operations to turn massive amounts of platform data into actionable decisions.

They design and analyze robust experiments, build statistical frameworks, and develop machine learning models to solve complex business challenges and drive product innovation. By defining core success metrics and uncovering user behavior trends, they directly influence product and other business team roadmaps. The data science role combines technical craft with strategic storytelling to empower high-impact decision-making across the entire company.

- Develop data-driven hypotheses to identify new opportunities and apply rigorous statistical methodology to evaluate product experiments, feature rollouts and user behavior.
- Analyze rich user interaction and telemetry datasets to uncover user journey patterns, identify friction points and surface growth opportunities.
- Translate business questions into analytical approaches and communicate results to broad audiences.
- Partner cross functionally with product managers, engineers, designers, data engineers and data scientists to drive decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

- Currently enrolled full time in a Masters program in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Econometrics, Computer Science or Equivalent and graduating by August 2027.
- Proficiency with SQL or other query languages and experience with Python or R for statistical computing, data analysis and predictive modeling.
- Understanding of statistical methods , hypothesis testing, experimental design (A/B testing) or machine learning fundamentals.
- Proficiency in visualization tools (e.g. Streamlit, Tableau, R-shiny) and libraries (e.g. matplotlib, bokeh).
- Demonstrated practical experience through internships, academic research, open-source contributions, or a portfolio of data projects.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey quantitative insights to both technical and non-technical teammates.

Preferred Qualifications

- Familiarity with modern AI tools and GenAI workflows (e.g., LLM APIs, AI coding assistants, prompt engineering, building AI agents/skills and/or agent orchestration).
- Familiarity with modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, Spark) or data transformation tools (e.g., dbt).
- An understanding of the SaaS business model and important metrics.
