Director, Software Development

About role:

- We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the global YourCause engineering organization at Blackbaud. This leader builds and develops a strong engineering leadership team, balances rapid growth with the reliability that large enterprise customers expect, uses AI to accelerate delivery and raise quality, and holds the organization to a high bar for technical excellence and operational reliability.

About the team:

- YourCause is Blackbaud’s corporate social responsibility platform and is a key part of Blackbaud’s product portfolio. Teams plan and deliver on a SAFe cadence with a monthly release train. You report to the Senior Director of Engineering for YourCause and Financials & Grantmaking and partner daily with the pillar’s Product leader.

What you’ll do:

- Build, mentor, and inspire diverse, high-performing engineering teams and leaders across application development, fostering an inclusive environment where individuals thrive and grow.
- Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and innovation – leveraging AI to accelerate delivery and improve quality, and encouraging the team to actively experiment with emerging capabilities as they evolve to enhance product capabilities and operational efficiency.
- Shape and execute technical strategy in close partnership with Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, and other key stakeholders, aligning technology roadmaps with business priorities and adapting to evolving industry practices.
- Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery by guiding teams to plan with clarity, mitigate risks early, and experiment responsibly, while fostering clear accountability for commitments.
- Own end-to-end delivery from development through operations, embedding security, reliability, and automation, and serve as the engineering escalation point for production-impacting incidents and key customer events, including root-cause communication to enterprise customers.
- Build a data-driven culture where metrics inform decisions and shape strategic change.
- Partner with Security, Compliance, and Payments to meet the control obligations that come with moving money to nonprofits at scale and handling employee data for global enterprise customers: payment controls, nonprofit vetting and sanctions screening, SOC reporting, and data privacy.
- Serve as the engineering counterpart to our largest enterprise customers on integrations, data services, and commitments, alongside Product and Customer Success.
- Play a hands-on role in shaping the India site as it scales — helping build the culture, talent, and operating rhythm that will define it for years to come.

What you’ll bring:

- 15+ years of relevant professional experience, including 10+ years in engineering leadership roles and direct experience managing managers.
- 7+ years delivering SaaS solutions at scale, with proven expertise in end-to-end delivery from development through operations meeting customer expectations and operational SLAs.
- Experience leading large, globally distributed engineering organizations, including people managers, and overseeing teams of 40+ engineers and architects.
- Strong ability to communicate a clear technical vision and influence strategic decisions, bridging complex engineering concepts with business priorities for stakeholders at every level.
- Demonstrated fluency with AI-driven development tools and practices, and a track record of leading teams through adoption and embedding AI into their workflows.
- Experience leading teams in SAFe or a comparable agile framework.
- Experience building enterprise B2B SaaS used by large corporations, including enterprise integrations (single sign-on, HRIS and payroll), multi-tenant scale, and seasonal peak load, strongly preferred. Experience with payments or money-movement systems is a plus.
- Experience in corporate social responsibility, the nonprofit sector, or with mission-driven organizations preferred.
- Able to work flexible hours as required by business priorities.
