The Regulatory Reporting Advisor plays a critical oversight role in overseeing the production and regulatory functions handled by a managed service provider (MSP) ensuring accurate and timely regulatory filings for state, federal and tribal agencies. This position is responsible for ensuring data integrity, compliance with state, federal and tribal regulations, and effective coordination between internal teams, the MSP and operators. This position also partners with the production and revenue advisor to support production variance reporting, data validation, trend analysis and general business decision making.

What You’ll Do

- Deliver accurate financial outcomes by compiling, consolidating, and analyzing financial data within established systems.

- Manage core accounting functions, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and supporting monthly close activities.

- Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards while maintaining data integrity.

- Partner with business units and teams to provide clear insights and timely information that support decision-making and operational excellence.

- Develop your capabilities through ongoing training and collaboration, staying current with industry best practices and digital tools.

- Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, resolve queries, and contribute to a culture of trust and continuous improvement.

- Monitor federal, state and tribal regulations affecting First Purchaser crude oil operations.

- Provide support in the preparation of regulatory reports, ensuring adherence to state, federal and tribal requirements. Reports include various state severance tax and royalty submissions, ONRR (federal and tribal) and production reports.

- Monitor regulatory reporting exceptions and ensure timely resolution.

- Provide support in tax rate updates to ensure the system reflects regulatory requirements.

- Ensure compliance with the latest tax laws and regulations.

- Perform monthly and quarterly general ledger reconciliations, monitor general ledger accounts and complete clearings.

- Maintain regulatory calendars, filing procedures, control documentation, and audit support.

- Research regulatory notices, agency inquiries, exceptions, and potential compliance issues.

- Oversee MSP metrics, analyze root causes of issues, and drive remediation strategies to improve process quality and efficiency.

- Advise stakeholders on regulatory impacts, corrective actions, and required documentation.

- Coordinate with regulatory agencies, operators, transporters, and internal business partners.

- Support regulatory audits, SOX activities, internal controls, and remediation plans.

- Develop procedures, training materials, compliance tools, and reporting dashboards.

- Partner with the Production Advisor to review monthly production variance reporting.

- Support the research root causes of variances, identify data-quality issues, and support timely resolution of exceptions.

- Assist the Production Advisor with ad hoc analysis and general business decision-making related to First Purchaser operations.

What You’ll Bring – Required

- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field

- Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to Travel up to 5%

- 2 or more years of finance or accounting experience

- Proficient in Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

- Minimum of 15 accounting hours

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

- Experience supporting internal and external audits, internal controls, SOX activities, and compliance reviews

- Experience working with outsourced operations or serving in a lead role, including reviewing deliverables, resolving exceptions, validating data, and coordinating process improvements

- 2 or more years of experience in SAP FI and MM

- Knowledge of Crude Oil First Purchaser processes including regulatory, run tickets, purchaser statements, ownership and revenue distribution

- Experience with regulatory reporting and compliance related to crude oil purchasing, severance taxes, royalties, withholding, and federal or state reporting

- Understanding of production reporting, volume reconciliation, variance analysis, and related decision support

- Experience developing procedures, work instructions, reporting tools, or compliance dashboards

- Knowledge of SAP and BlackLine, or similar accounting system

- Experience in managing outsourced operations

- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and data reconciliation

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to research variances, identify root causes, and recommend solutions

- Ability to support production variance reporting and provide data-driven advisement

- Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective coordination with external providers, regulatory agencies, and internal teams

- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and thrive in a self-directed position

- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to meet recurring reporting and compliance deadlines

- Ability to interpret requirements and translate them into practical procedures, controls, and business recommendations

Compensation Range

This position has a base salary range of $108,900 – $133,100.
