Cold Brew Machine Operator

Summary

The Cold Brew Machine Operator plays an important role in the day-to-day operations of Stumptown’s Cold Brew production. Reporting to the Cold Brew Operations Manager, this role ensures the entire "brew-to-package" process—including all material handling, quality checks, and machine operation—is executed safely, efficiently, and meets Stumptown’s rigorous quality standards. The Operator is key to managing day-to-day production workflows, maintaining a smooth, continuous process, and upholding the integrity of the cold brew from start to finish.

Essential Functions

- Brewing Process Expertise: Proficient in all stages of the cold brew process, including raw material preparation, brewing processes, transfers between vessels, filtration, final dilution, and packaging preparation.
- Packaging Line Command: Directly operate and manage the Wild Goose Can line (e.g., filler, seamer, case former, case taper), ensuring efficient runs, minimal downtime, and excellent, consistent package integrity.
- Sanitation & Quality Control: Execute and document rigorous Clean-In-Place (CIP) and Clean-Out-of-Place (COP) procedures on all equipment, machinery, and related product lines in accordance with our processes and procedures. Uphold all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and workplace safety protocols.
- Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous, accurate documentation of all production runs, production logs, batch records, and product testing results.
- In-Process Quality Checks: Perform regular checks throughout the packaging run—monitoring fill levels, nitrogen levels, seam/seal integrity, and final packaged product—to guarantee every package meets Stumptown's highest quality standards.
- Setup & Changeovers: Efficiently execute machine setup, start-up protocols, and line changeovers for different cold brew varieties or formats, minimizing production lag.
- Packaging Line Sanitation (CIP/COP): Execute and document rigorous Clean-In-Place (CIP) and Clean-Out-of-Place (COP) procedures on all equipment, machinery, and related product lines in accordance with our processes and procedures.
- Equipment Care: Adhere to preventative maintenance schedules for all brewing, filtering, and packaging machinery. Assist with general facility equipment upkeep and sanitation schedules.
- Safety Leadership: Champion Stumptown's safety standards, upholding procedures for the proper and safe handling of chemicals (like acids or caustic solutions) during the sanitation process, and modeling ergonomic workflow for heavy lifting and maneuvering equipment.
- Team Support: Fosters a collaborative, efficient work environment, ensuring the team follows correct material-handling and process procedures to support effective time management and output.
- Other Duties: Performs duties as assigned to support the greater Cold Brew and Operations teams.

Qualifications

- Prior experience working in a beverage or food manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for coffee and alignment with Stumptown’s quality standards.
- Brings a strong customer service approach, understanding how production quality impacts the end consumer.
- Maintains a meticulous eye for detail, especially regarding cleanliness, sanitation, and product consistency.
- Able to manage multiple scheduled tasks efficiently, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing production needs.
- Works independently with minimal supervision and shows initiative in solving problems or improving processes.
- Ability to collaborate on workplace improvements and provide constructive feedback

Physical Demands

- Frequently moves materials weighing up to 60 pounds. For items over 60 pounds, appropriate lifting equipment or a team lift will be used to ensure safety.
- Regularly involves stooping, bending, and reaching, including forward bending at the waist and other full-body movements required during production and cleaning tasks.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift in a production facility environment.
- Work is performed in a production environment that may include exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and cleaning chemicals.

Work Environment

- Work is performed at Stumptown’s Cold Brew production facility, which may have varying temperatures depending on the season and production activity.

- The environment can be noisy, due to equipment operation and ongoing production processes.

- Must have schedule flexibility, including the ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed to meet production demands.

The target base compensation for this position is $23.50.
