💻 Role

The Communications team at Whatnot works across all areas of the business in both a proactive and reactive capacity, and helps to shape and protect external and internal perceptions of Whatnot. We’re hiring for an experienced Product Communications Manager to support product communications efforts and broader consumer communications.

As a Manager, Product Communications, you’ll help bring Whatnot’s product innovation to life for sellers, buyers, media, and the broader industry. You’ll develop clear, compelling messaging, support product launches and media engagement, and communicate directly with our seller community about the tools we’re building to help them grow. Working closely with partners across Product, Community, and Account Management, you’ll help tell the story of how Whatnot is building the future of commerce.

- Drive Product Communications & Understanding – Develop and execute communications plans for new products and features, translating complex product updates into clear, compelling stories for sellers, buyers, and external audiences. Partner with Product, Community, and Account Management teams to build awareness and understanding of tools that help sellers grow their businesses.
- Tell the Story of Whatnot’s Product Innovation – Stay closely connected to the product roadmap and identify opportunities to bring Whatnot’s innovation story to life. Develop messaging, launch materials, seller communications, and PR moments that show how our products are improving the live shopping experience.
- Support Media Relations – Build relationships with reporters covering AI, technology, commerce, and business. Develop timely pitches and product launch narratives that show how Whatnot uses AI to improve discovery, personalization, and seller tools while keeping human connection at the center of commerce.

We offer flexibility to work from home or from one of our global office hubs, and we value in-person time for planning, problem-solving, and connection. Team members in this role must live within commuting distance of our Los Angeles, San Francisco, or New York City hubs.

👋 You

People who do well at Whatnot tend to be comfortable figuring things out as they go, biased toward action, and genuinely curious about what they're building. They care more about outcomes than credit and stay close to the product and the people using it.

As our next Manager, Product Communications, you should have 6+ years of communications experience, ideally with exposure to product communications, plus:

- Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to turn complex product updates into clear, compelling communications for different audiences.
- A customer-first mindset and strong judgment about what customers need to know, why it matters to them, and how best to communicate it.
- The ability to move quickly and execute high-quality work in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple projects and shifting priorities.
- Strong cross-functional skills, with experience working closely with partners across Product, Marketing, Community, Account Management, or similar teams to bring launches and communications programs to life.
- Strong project management and attention to detail, with the ability to keep multiple workstreams organized and moving forward.
- Experience supporting product launches, including developing messaging, communications materials, and plans across multiple channels.
- New media and traditional media relations experience, including identifying relevant story angles, developing pitches, and working with reporters.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity, taking initiative, and figuring out what needs to happen next without waiting for perfect direction.
- Experience at a high-growth startup, marketplace, ecommerce company, or consumer technology platform is a plus.
