Location: Farmington, Connecticut (Onsite)

Job Type: Full-Time, Entry-Level

Role Overview

Join a 24-month early-career rotational leadership development program within the Digital Technology organization, called the DT Rising Leaders Program and help build software that improves how people move through buildings. You will complete three eight-month assignments across software engineering and field operations, gaining experience with embedded systems, applications, automated testing, product deployment, and customer environments. You will work with experienced engineers, field teams, product partners, mentors, and program leaders. The program combines meaningful assignments, structured development, and a pathway toward a permanent software engineering role on the Compass team.

On a Typical Day You Will

• Develop, test, release, and maintain software for the Compass product line.

• Build experience across Linux-based systems, embedded platforms, application software, automated testing, and supporting tools.

• Complete three eight-month rotations designed to prepare you for a long-term software engineering role.

• Partner with field service teams during one rotation to understand how Compass solutions are installed, operated, supported, and maintained in customer environments.

• Translate observations from site visits and ride-alongs into product requirements, usability improvements, and support recommendations.

• Create user guides, tutorials, and other resources that make product deployment and adoption easier for field teams, building teams, users, and customers.

• Investigate software issues, support upgrades and field tests, and help identify root causes in operating environments.

• Collaborate with engineering, product management, quality assurance, sales, customer support, and building stakeholders to improve the end-to-end product experience.

• Write clean, maintainable, testable code and contribute to code reviews and team planning.

• Present rotation goals, progress, lessons learned, and outcomes to program and technology leaders, then apply feedback to strengthen your work.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, which must be completed by the June 2027 start date timeframe.

What You Will Need to Be Successful

• Coursework, project experience, or practical experience with one or more programming languages, such as Python, C, C++, Java, or Go.

• Foundational understanding of software development, testing, troubleshooting, version control, or Linux-based environments. Experience in embedded software is a plus.

• Ability to learn quickly, ask thoughtful questions, take initiative, and adapt across engineering, field, product, and customer-facing assignments.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain progress, findings, and recommendations to technical and nontechnical partners.

• Ability to work onsite in Farmington and participate in site visits, ride-alongs, and active field environments while following applicable safety requirements.
