Job Summary: The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for performing routine and complex repairs and preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and other mechanical systems. This position ensures vehicles are maintained in safe, reliable operating condition and reports to the Fleet Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Perform routine and complex repairs and preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles in accordance with DOT regulations, federal and state laws, manufacturer specifications, and industry best practices.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete mechanical and electrical repairs; operate vehicles to perform road tests and verify proper and safe operation.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain vehicle systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, air conditioning, powertrain, engine, brake, electrical, fuel, and related systems.
- Accurately complete and maintain required documentation, including DOT records, inspections, repair orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and inventory records; order parts as needed.
- Maintain operational readiness of the fleet by responding to maintenance requests promptly to minimize vehicle downtime and support continuous improvement of maintenance processes.

- Work collaboratively with plant and operations personnel in a professional and cooperative manner.
- Comply with all safety rules, policies, and procedures required by company policy, applicable laws, and industry standards; maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
- Stay current on equipment, diagnostic tools, and repair procedures.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Functions:
- Operate company vehicles to pick up or deliver parts, equipment, or vehicles as needed.
- Assist other plant personnel and support additional operational tasks as directed by supervision.
Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to understand and follow directions, perform basic mathematical calculations, manage time effectively, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record in accordance with company and insurance requirements.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in automotive repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles, including knowledge of heavy-duty or large transport vehicle systems.
- Ability to provide and maintain required tools where applicable by location.
- Demonstrated reliability and excellent attendance record.
Education Requirements: A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training program, where required.
- Additional technical training or certifications may be required by location, such as ASE certification(s) or completion of an approved automotive or diesel mechanics vocational/technical program or equivalent experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, reach (including overhead), twist, push, pull, grasp, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles and equipment safely.
- Ability to communicate effectively, including speaking, hearing, and reading, and to perform written documentation.
Environmental Conditions:
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including maintenance facilities, fleet vehicles, and yard areas.
- Regular exposure to automotive fluids, chemicals, noise, vibration, and moving mechanical parts, as well as the use of large machinery and tools.
- Includes operation of vehicles on public roadways and exposure to varying weather conditions.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional local travel may be required to procure parts, transport vehicles, or support fleet operations.
