## Job Category:

## Employment Type:
Terminal (Fixed Term)
## Job Profile:

Job Duties:
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s (UWM’s) Department of Social Work is seeking a part-time Coordinator for the GIVN-UWM Social Work Partnership for Rural Health Project or Partnership Project. The position is combined with the Coordinator for the Title IV-E Public Child Welfare Training Program, resulting in a .5 FTE or 50% appointment. The combined Coordinator position extends over the life of the Partnership Project (2026-2031) and can be renewed annually contingent on funding.
Partnership Project Background: Funded through the federal Rural Health Transformation program, the aim of the Partnership Project is to expand and enrich the healthcare workforce in northern Wisconsin. To realize this lofty goal, the project combines the resources of a northern Wisconsin health consortium titled Gogebic, Iron, and Vilas Network of Presque Isle, Wisconsin (GIVN) with UWM’s online Master of Social Work (MSW) program. Together, GIVN and UWM recruit students for the program and identify rural healthcare sites to train social work interns in the provision of healthcare-related social work services. The MSW online program educates participating students in evidence-based, trauma-informed, generalist social work practice with a special focus on medical social work or mental and behavioral healthcare. The MSW online program also provides comprehensive field placement support. Both GIVN and UWM then help graduating, students assume pre-licensed social work positions within rural sites and pursue federal student loan repayment. Recently awarded funding, the Partnership Project launched in July 2026 and is scheduled to run through June 2031, contingent on available funding.
Partnership Project Coordinator Summary of Duties: The Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Project Director James Dimitri Topitzes. However, the Coordinator will also work closely with the UWM’s Partnership Project leaders, including MSW Field Director Johanna Barkei, MSW Online Program Manager Michelle Jurvelin, and Project Evaluator Alexa Anderson. The Coordinator will support all project activities including student and site recruitment, student application review and program admission, student enrollment and stipend payments, student course planning and field placement, student graduation and job placement, and program evaluation and report writing.
Title IV-E Program Background: The Title IV-E Public Child Welfare Training program is delivered through a partnership between DCF and public Universities funded by Federal Title IV-E training funds. The program provides financial support to current child welfare professionals so they can obtain their MSW degree to improve recruitment and retention in the child welfare workforce by reinforcing worker competencies, delivering specialized curriculum, facilitating professional communities, and training leaders. The Title IV-E program at UWM has been supporting students for more than 30 years and has recently expanded to support rural child welfare practice and address workforce shortages around the State of Wisconsin.
Title IV-E Program Coordinator Summary of Duties: The Title IV-E Program Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Project Manager Johanna Barkei while also working closely with the Grant PI, Colleen Janczewski. The Coordinator will support all project activities including student and site recruitment, student application review and program admission, student enrollment and stipend payments, and monitoring student work obligations.
