Driver

About the Role
The Driver supports CHHJ’s new freight hauling division by safely transporting freight and military household goods shipments. This position is responsible for dependable service, careful handling of shipments, accurate documentation, and adherence to company safety standards and applicable transportation requirements.
 
What You’ll Do 
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Safely operate company vehicles to transport freight and military household goods to assigned destinations.
• Follow scheduled routes and communicate promptly with dispatch regarding shipment progress, delays, delivery updates, and operational concerns.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs or safety concerns.
• Ensure cargo is properly secured and protected throughout transportation.
• Assist with or oversee loading and unloading as assigned, taking care to prevent damage to freight, household goods, and property.
• Maintain accurate shipment records, delivery paperwork, inspection reports, and driving logs.
• Follow applicable DOT Hours of Service requirements, including required breaks and reset periods.
• Provide professional, courteous service to customers, military families, shipment coordinators, and receiving personnel.
• Report accidents, incidents, cargo damage, and delivery discrepancies promptly.

Qualifications & Requirements
• Valid Class C driver’s license required
• Safe driving record.
• Ability to meet company background screening requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English with dispatch, customers, and transportation officials and to understand safety instructions and shipment documentation.
• Experience transporting freight and/or household goods preferred.
• Military household goods transportation experience preferred.
• Strong attention to safety, cargo protection, documentation, and customer service.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing routes and delivery schedules.
• Ability to meet applicable driver qualification and medical requirements for assigned duties.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
• Work includes extended periods of driving, travel, and time away from home based on assigned shipments.
• Schedule varies according to shipment needs and applicable Hours of Service requirements.
• Ability to inspect vehicles, secure cargo, and perform assigned loading and unloading duties.
• Work may involve outdoor conditions and varying weather.
