THE ROLE

The Facilities Manager provides hands-on mechanical, trade, and preventative maintenance leadership across the Marshall Health Network Arena and attached convention center complex. Reporting to the Assistant General Manager, this individual is the primary technical and "fix-it" anchor for the facility, directly troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining building infrastructure, physical plant mechanicals, and event production systems.

By executing proactive repairs and routine maintenance in-house, including HVAC air handlers, baseline kitchen equipment triage, and production hardware, the Facility Manager ensures continuous facility readiness for live concerts, sporting events, trade shows, and banquets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Oversee the day-to-day maintenance, operation, and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, basic electrical/plumbing, lighting, and other critical facility infrastructure to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
- Conduct daily facility walkthroughs of the arena bowl, convention exhibit halls, meeting rooms, backstage areas, and mechanical rooms to identify maintenance needs and address safety hazards prior to public occupancy.
- Perform inspections and basic troubleshooting on concession and food-service equipment, escalating complex repairs to specialized third-party kitchen contractors.
- Coordinate, supervise, and escort third-party contractors when specialized repairs or capital projects are required.
- Ensure vendor work meets safety codes, timelines, budgets, and venue standards.
- Enforce adherence to local building codes, OSHA standards, environmental regulations, and life-safety guidelines across all workshop and physical plant spaces.
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, conversions, and event-services teams to prepare the physical venue for touring concert load-ins, sporting events, and multi-day convention programs.
- Support a flexible, event-driven work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by event calendars.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

- 3–5+ years of progressive, hands-on commercial facility maintenance, physical plant operations, or general contracting experience demonstrating mechanical and trade problem-solving.
- High school diploma, GED, or vocational trade school completion required; equivalent combination of formal trade training, military technical engineering experience, and hands-on maintenance tenure will be considered.
- Experience maintaining basic mechanical infrastructure, commercial HVAC systems (air handlers, ventilation), and commercial refrigeration equipment.
- Background maintaining large, multi-use facilities, public assembly spaces, healthcare campuses, educational complexes, or commercial venues.

Skills and Abilities

- Ability to prioritize competing maintenance requests and manage multiple facility projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to interact professionally with venue management, front-line staff, event promoters, and external trade contractors.
- Self-starter with high autonomy, capable of operating with limited direct supervision in a fast-paced live entertainment environment.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and the ability to learn and manage daily work orders within Maintenance Manager (CMMS) software.

Bonus Experience, Certifications & Licensures:

- Degree or vocational certification in Facility Maintenance, Mechanical Systems, Electrical Engineering, or Building Trades.
- Hands-on experience repairing commercial plumbing, electrical infrastructure, and food-service/kitchen equipment (e.g., walk-in coolers, freezers, fryers).
- State trade licensure (e.g., Journeyman/Master Electrician, Journeyman Plumber, or General Contractor license) or completion of a recognized trade union apprenticeship.
- Prior maintenance experience within sports arenas, convention centers, civic auditoriums, or high-traffic entertainment venues.
