About this role
This role is part of the Digital Foundation Solutions(DFS), which includes a Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) as a global team, with presence in the Netherlands and US. This team’s vision is to provide a flexible and reliable cloud platform to enable accelerated and sustainable adoption of cloud across ASML, maximizing the ability to realize its benefits while reducing risks. In this role you will work closely together with products owners, cloud & security architects, cloud engineers, cloud FinOps specialists and financial resources to help build a secure and robust enterprise-grade cloud platform and managing the DFS US budget processes in conjunction with the NL finance resources.
The DFS cloud US Team is responsible for cloud onboarding and solutioning to guide other ASML DevOps teams in their onboarding journey to cloud, which includes aspects around architecture, FinOps and security. During the cloud journey the stakeholders will need to have cost insights available through the ASML cloud FinOps tool, Flexera, and will need guidance on how to fulfill their cloud FinOps roles and responsibilities. Moreover, besides reporting, the FinOps team members are very focused on monitoring efficiency metrics, advising and producing recommendations on how to use cloud resources in an efficient way without harming the technical functionality and performance.
The Cloud Optimization Engineer will be responsible to provide sufficient FinOps insights to enable the workload teams to be compliant with the budget they have allocated, define guidelines, best practices and spot-on recommendations on how to use cloud resources efficiently, as well as promote the adoption of the FinOps governance, tooling and community of practice. There will also be additional responsibilities covering Private Cloud expenditures and on-prem DFS capex/opex monthly financials.
We are seeking a Cloud Optimization Engineer to join our Digital Foundation Solutions US team. This role is pivotal in enhancing business value by ensuring efficient and transparent cloud financial operations for both public and private cloud, while also helping with additional budget requirements. You will be responsible for driving financial accountability, cost transparency and cloud resource optimization across our organization. Working cross functionally with technical, financial and business stakeholders, you will ensure cloud costs are managed effectively while supporting strategic decision making.
Role and responsibilities
- Manage hybrid cloud spend in relation to life cycle management for private cloud/on-prem and workload management for public cloud
- Manage Flexera access for the US as the cloud cost monitoring tool ensuring cloud cost data accuracy allocated at billing data, and workload level
- Provide cloud usage optimization recommendation based on data insights and best practices to enable workload teams to implement cost saving measures and operational improvements
- Deliver monthly reporting and dashboards displaying cloud cost, utilization and performance metrics to stakeholders
- Coordinate data collection and deliver monthly reporting to cover DFS US financials based on actual and committed expenditures
- Develop forecasting model to deliver future cloud spend based
- Plan and lead stakeholder sessions including onboarding new cost managers, cost center owner, cost owners and align with broader Cloud Cost Management Community
- Organize knowledge sharing initiatives to address cloud financial knowledge gaps
- Analyze cloud architectures and workload patterns to identify cost drivers and optimization opportunities
- Perform deep cost and usage analysis using billing data, metrics, and telemetry to uncover inefficiencies
- Build and automate data pipelines, dashboards, and cost models for accurate insights and forecasting
- Implement and track cost optimization actions (e.g., rightsizing, reservations, scheduling, storage tiering)
- Collaborate hands-on with engineering teams to improve cost-performance trade-offs
- Develop and enforce tagging, cost allocation, pricing models and governance standards
- Automate cost controls, alerts, and remediation workflows
- Translate technical usage into financial impact to support business decision making
- Drive FinOps best practices, KPIs, and continuous maturity improvement across the organization
- Facilitate yearly budget process (TAP) for DFS in coordination with NL financial resources to accurately estimate spend for the coming year
- Perform other duties as assigned or required

Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Management, Data Analytics / Science Accounting, or related field (for Cloud Financial Manager roles). Master's preferred
- 5+ years experience in FinOps, with focus Cloud Financial management
- Hands on experience with cloud platform (Azure/GCP) and cost management tools (preferably Flexera – a nice to have not a must)
- Strong understating of cloud pricing models and commitment management
- Analytical mindset with ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Understanding of capex and opex budget tracking and oversight

- Able to express ideas effectively in individual and group situations (including non-verbal communication); adjusting language or terminology to the characteristics and needs of the audience, and the ability to listen effectively to others and give constructive feedback to others

- Deep technical knowledge of FinOps/ Cloud cost management
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analytics tools (SQL, Python, PowerShell)

- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects and assignments.

- This position is located on-site in San Diego, CA . It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation
- A flexible workplace arrangement may be available to employees working in roles conducive to remote work (up to two days a week)

The current base annual salary range for this role is currently:
$109,200-150,150
Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
