Weekend News Anchor/Reporter

Nexstar Media Inc. has an opening for an experienced Weekend News Anchor/Reporter who is ready to take on a high-profile role for DC News Now in Washington, DC DMA Market #7. The News Anchor/Reporter will be assigned to weekend newscasts and reporting during three weekdays and will be expected to contribute to various digital and social media platforms.

The Weekend News Anchor/Reporter will work with the newsroom leadership team anchor newscasts and local programming on WDVM, WDCW (CW) and contribute to our digital assets in the market. The candidate should have a proven track record of anchoring traditional newscasts and reporting in a top-40 market and demonstrable experience creating content for digital platforms.

The Weekend News Anchor/Reporter must be ready to handle unscripted coverage in breaking news situations and understand this is a very competitive market covering a large geographic region across multiple states.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable leadership skills including acting as a role model, coaching less experienced members of the team and taking part in station projects that will include public appearances. The News Anchor/Reporter will take part in editorial meetings and will be expected to contribute to editorial decision-making.

The successful candidate will also have demonstrable storytelling skills including enterprising meaningful and relevant stories.

Washington, DC may be at the center of the nation’s politics, but the city and its immediate metro area includes world-class museums, nationally renowned event venues, a vibrant arts community and multiple sports venues.

The primary responsibilities of the Weekend News Anchor/Reporter include, but are not limited to:

- Write, edit and deliver news stories in a clear and concise manner.
- Working on frequent deadlines.
- Assist in the production of newscasts on multiple platforms.
- Confirm that news stories meet professional and company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
- Report and/or anchor in the field.
- Contribute to social media platforms consistent with company guidelines.
- Shoot and edit video as needed.
- Respond to breaking news as needed.
- Participate in promotional events as needed.

Requirements & Skills :

- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- At least five years professional experience; at least three to five years in a top-40 market preferred.
- Demonstrable knowledge of current national and international issues and ability to quickly understand local issues.
- Demonstrable communication skills including clear writing and speaking.
- Demonstrable experience with contemporary newsroom systems including news production, video editing, digital content management, email and other collaboration tools; previous ENPS experience preferred.
- Demonstrable experience creating CTV (streaming) content; previous vMix experience preferred.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of additional languages preferred.
- Flexibility to adjust schedule and assignments as business needs evolve
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Salary Range: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 based upon experience
