Summer 2027 Finance Internship

Southwest Airlines' Financial Planning & Analytics Summer Internships span across several different Finance and Internal Audit Departments. If hired, Interns may be asked to support a variety of projects within one of the following Teams:
- Financial Planning and Analysis Intern - The Product Enablement Team is part of the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) organization and works closely with Technology and business partners across Southwest Airlines. The team’s mission is to deliver connected planning models and the infrastructure that supports efficient, scalable planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes. The FP&A Department enables Southwest Airlines to make informed, data-driven decisions that drive performance, achieve strategic objectives, and support long-term financial success. Through accurate forecasting, enterprise-wide business insights, and objective financial analysis, FP&A serves as a trusted partner in guiding the Company's growth and operational effectiveness.
- Internal Audit Data Analytics Intern – The Internal Audit Team provides independent and objective assurance and advisory services designed to improve Southwest Airlines' operations. Interns gain exposure to enterprise risk management, internal controls, business processes, data analytics, and audit projects across operational, financial, technology, compliance, and strategic risk areas. Interns work alongside audit professionals to evaluate risks, analyze data, identify improvement opportunities, and support projects that help strengthen governance, risk management, and internal controls across the Company.
Additional Details
- Join Southwest as a Summer 2027 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 18 – August 8, 2027.
- Pay of $21-$26 per hour, corresponding with progress toward degree.
- Stipends may be offered based on eligibility and program criteria.

Due to the nature of this role, you would be required to work from our Dallas, TX headquarters facility during business hours (2702 Love Field Drive).
- Dedicate 40 hours each week (maximum of 8 hours per day) to your internship responsibilities and tasks.
- Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel).
- Interns will be provided any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship
- U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. required and no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of Financial Planning & Analysis and Internal Audit Intern may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with and head up projects to improve department processes and procedures
- Data entry and analysis
- Research, evaluate and recommend new tools and/or equipment
- Assist with training program development and delivery
- Assist, support, and deliver presentations for meetings, training, and workshops
- Develop and maintain data analysis and querying applications using QuickBase, Tableau, Alteryx, Excel, and other self-help tools available for use by SWA Employees
- Partners to identify discrepancies/errors, investigate the cause, and communicate a logical resolution promptly to the respective process owner
- Provide technical data, statistics, and analysis to internal and external Customers at an exceptional level of customer service.
- Analyze financial, operational, and business process data to identify risks, trends, control gaps, and/or Compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct research, data analysis, and benchmarking to support audit engagements and annual risk assessment
Knowledge, Skills, Work Style & Abilities:
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Planning, strong problem-solving ability, and written/verbal communications skills needed
- Knowledge of auditing, accounting, finance, business processes, risk management, or internal controls
- Ability to stay organized and manage multiple and concurrent assignments
- Works well in a culture that is open, direct, respectful, courteous, and compassionate
- Quick learner, self-motivated, team oriented
- Analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy (Tableau, Alteryx, Python, SQL or Power BI,)
Education:
- Progress toward a degree, major, or minor in Accounting, Aviation, Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Information Science, Risk management, or similar degree required
- Progress towards a 4-year undergraduate degree preferred
- To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (as defined by your
university) at the time of application and during the internship
- At least one semester remaining at the time the internship ends is preferred
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process
