Based on Auckland’s North Shore, Kristin School is a premier independent, co-educational, non-denominational school that welcomes over 1,800 students from Early Learning to Year 13 and is guided by deeply held values: Progress, Vision, Integrity and Love. We are seeking an inspirational and forward-thinking Head of Library Services to lead, guide, and direct our Library Services across the Junior, Middle, and Senior Schools.

In this pivotal leadership role, you will develop the library into a vibrant centre of learning that supports student achievement, reading engagement, and the school’s overall strategic plan. You will oversee all aspects of library operations, including staff management, budgeting, physical and digital collection development, facilities, and academic programmes.

Key Responsibilities Include:

- Strategic Leadership & Management: Drive the library’s strategic direction, manage budgets, maintain Library Management Systems, and collaborate with Senior Leadership and Principals.

- Team Leadership: Provide line management, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for Junior, Middle, and Senior School Librarians.

- Collection Development: Oversee physical and digital eResource collections across all three schools to ensure resources are current, accessible, and aligned with curriculum needs.

- Reading Engagement: Champion a robust reading culture across the school through engaging literacy programmes, events, and curated reading materials.

- Inquiry Learning & Information Literacy: Collaborate with teachers and the Head of Digital Innovation to integrate digital and information literacy skills into the curriculum to support inquiry learning and research.

- Design, develop and teach lessons across a variety of year levels to support inquiry learning.

- Space & Facilities: Design and curate flexible, dynamic physical and virtual library spaces catering to collaborative work, teaching, recreation, and quiet study.

Important Skills | Nga Pūkenga Motuhake

- Qualified Librarian with experience working in an educational or school environment

- Confidence to work with students across various age groups across the school

- Solid understanding of the New Zealand curriculum and International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes

- Understanding of Library Management Systems

- Proven track record in collection development, resource planning, e-resources and budgetary management

- Demonstrated experience in team leadership, staff management and mentoring.

- Strong understanding of information and digital literacy skills.

- A strong understanding of academic integrity and  copyright rules for an educational environment.
