About this role

The school of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is looking for a Research Fellow specializing in Maritime Studies. The appointment is typically for one year and may be extended, subjected to performance and availability of research funding.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop state-of-the-art and innovative models and algorithms to improve port and shipping management efficiency.
- Propose solutions to Maritime industry practical challenges using mathematical modelling approaches, including traditional operations research modelling, learning-based models, and Large Language Modelling (LLM).
- Conduct extensive numerical experiments to validate and evaluate the performance of the proposed models.
- Present research results as academic papers and reports.
- Assist in the preparation of research proposals at different levels.
- Perform data analysis and engage with stakeholders to support project objectives and effective communication.

Job Requirements:

- A PhD degree in transport engineering, ocean engineering, maritime transport and management, computer science, or a related field from a recognized university.
- Excellent programming skills, such as Python, C++, Java, Julia, or other competent languages.
- A good record of publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals in maritime transport, logistics management, machine learning, deep learning, and optimization is desirable.
- Proficient in verbal and written communication.
- Experience in proposal writing and funding application is desirable.
