Assistant Toddler Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, as leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The Assistant Toddler Teacher p rovides direct supervision to a group of children in the Enrichment Program. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all children in the program and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall preschool experience.

Successful candidate will demonstrate the following: experience working with young children, familiarity with the State of Maine Early Childhood Learning Guidelines, Creative Curriculum, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards, current CPR/First Aid certification, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to the field of early care and education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Supports Lead Teacher and works as a team to supervise a group of toddler age children.

- Assists with lesson plan implementation and program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.

- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.

- Attends staff meetings and trainings.

- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

- MRTQ level 4 preferred.

- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a childcare setting.

- At least 18 years of age.

- State of Maine childcare provider background check

- CPR, first aid, AED certifications, and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
