Position:  YMCA Community Sports Lead
Reports To:  Program Engagement Manager
Status:  Non-Exempt | Part-Time
Pay:  $20.00–$22.00/hour
Location:  In-Person (Sioux Falls YMCA & rental facilities)

Available Hours/Shifts:

- Weekdays (4 days per week): 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM

- Weekends: Other hours available by request

- Other hours may be asked upon applicant’s availability & request

Position Summary

As the Community Sports Lead, you'll help create a  safe, fun, and welcoming  space for all youth sports participants. You’ll manage operations and develop/lead practices at (8) locations for elementary aged kids grades 3 rd -5 th . Design practices and implement them on the court through the community basketball program in partnership with the CLC.

Key Responsibilities

- Arrive on time and be ready to receive players promptly

- Set up and manage equipment used for league purposes

- Work with the Program Engagement Manager to design practices

- Lead all practices at (8) locations throughout the week and then implement them in games

- Coach (4) games per month – ensuring equal play time and positive reinforcement practices are used

- Position will require minimum travel time between schools on practice days

- Foster and maintain positive communication with school district staff, families and players

- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED

- Basketball knowledge about the rules of the game and a general idea on how to teach/communicate the game to young athletes.

- The ability to work with youth in a kind, professional way that does not shame or discourage players from playing the game.

- Must pass a background check & participate in CPR training (YMCA will lead after hire and you will be paid for your training)

- Familiarity with the YMCA Basketball Program, mission and values preferred

- Confidence and professionalism when engaging with diverse groups

- An ideal candidate is trustworthy and dependable. Must have a great work ethic and must represent the YMCA in a positive way.

Physical & Work Requirements

- Occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, twisting, and climbing

- Periods of standing, walking, and talking with staff and families

- Moderate decision-making in a dynamic environment
