The internship assignment :
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytically driven intern to join the Quality Paint team. This role focuses on performing complex analysis across pretreatment, e-coat, sealer, areas of the paint shop, The intern will support continuous improvement initiatives by collecting, analysing, and interpreting quality data to identify trends, root causes, and actionable insights that drive defect reduction and process optimization.
- Support root cause analysis across pretreatment, ecoat, paint application, film build, edge coverage, and substrate condition.
- Collect and analyze corrosion test data (salt spray, cyclic corrosion, adhesion, thickness, visual inspection).
- Investigate paint corrosion issues on vehicles/parts from production, audits, and field returns.
- Document findings with clear evidence: photos, measurements, process data, and structured reports.
- Track corrosion issues, trials, and validation results end-to-end.
- Support cross-functional containment and corrective action follow up with Paint, Quality, Materials, Maintenance, BiW and Manufacturing.
- Identify process/material risks and propose data driven improvements to reduce corrosion defects.
- Currently enrolled in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Coatings/Corrosion, or related.
- Strong interest in coatings, corrosion mechanisms, and manufacturing quality.
- Analytical, detail oriented, and comfortable working with data (Excel or equivalent).
- Clear technical writing and communication skills.
- Able to work on the factory floor and in lab environments.
- Preferred: coursework or hands-on exposure to corrosion, surface chemistry, paint systems, failure analysis, or metrology tools.
