About this role
Are you passionate about innovative display technology and precision engineering? Apple’s iPad & Mac Display Module team is seeking a talented and driven Display Engineer to lead the development of cutting-edge flat panel displays from initial concept through mass production. In this role, you will serve as a key technical interface between system teams, display electrical and optical engineering, mechanical engineering, and global supply partners. You will own the end-to-end development of display modules—driving design, validation, and integration to ensure industry-leading visual experiences for millions of users worldwide.
As a Display Engineer on the iPad & Mac team based in China, you will play a central role in defining, developing, and validating next-generation display technologies. You will collaborate closely with internal cross-functional engineering teams—including Optical, Electrical, Mechanical, Process, Reliability, and Panel Architecture engineers—while serving as the primary technical driver and authority with external display suppliers and final assembly manufacturing partners. You will champion module-level execution, drive technical risk mitigation, and translate product design intent into high-volume manufacturing success.
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optics, Physics, Materials Science, or a related engineering field.
10+ years of hands-on engineering experience in display technology development, display module integration, optical system engineering, or semiconductor optoelectronics.
Demonstrated track record of leading display products through full development lifecycles (NPI: concept, prototyping, engineering builds, validation, and mass production ramp).
Strong practical experience in statistical data analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), and hands-on Failure Analysis (FA) across optical, electrical, and mechanical domains.
Proven ability to manage technical deliverables, solve complex engineering problems under tight timelines, and drive external vendor accountability.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both English and Mandarin (written and verbal), with the ability to summarize complex technical findings for executive decision-making.
Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally to support builds and ramp at supplier sites.
Preferred Qualifications
MS or PhD in Optics, Physics, EE, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Proven track record in OLED panel architecture, TFT/backplane design, driving circuits, and display module process development in high-volume consumer electronics.
In-depth expertise in optical and display performance characterization, including hands-on proficiency with bench-top and industry-standard optical measurement instrumentation (e.g., spectroradiometers, 2D colorimeters).
Direct experience collaborating with mainstream global LCD / OLED panel suppliers and Tier-1 contract manufacturers (CMs).
Strong understanding of mechanical tolerance stack-up, display lamination processes, adhesive/material technologies, and system-level integration.
