About the Role:
We are seeking a visionary Engineering Manager to spearhead our WhatsApp Team — the engine behind one of HighLevel’s most explosive growth stories. For our rapidly expanding global customer base, this isn’t just a feature; it is their lifeline and primary gateway for engaging with their own customers at scale.
This team architecturally owns the entire WhatsApp ecosystem: frictionless onboarding, complex WABA management, template lifecycles, high-throughput message delivery, and the sophisticated usage metering that powers our monetization. Operating at the intersection of our product ambitions and Meta’s global business platform, you will navigate a high-stakes environment where roadmap velocity meets the technical rigor of massive-scale API integrations.external platform's rate limits, policy changes and API deprecations as by our own product ambitions.
With adoption outpacing original architecture, your mission is pure-play core engineering: re-architecting for the next order of magnitude. You will solve for extreme deliverability under bursty load, resilient webhook ingestion, and ironclad tenant isolation. Leading a world-class team of 8+ engineers, you will own the technical destiny of a product that is scaling faster than the market, partnering with cross-functional leaders to ensure reliability never flinches in the face of hyper-growth.

Responsibilities

- Champion the architecture and scaling roadmap for the global WhatsApp platform, from high-velocity message pipelines to intricate conversation state management and media handling

- Engineer for the future : lead capacity planning, throughput optimization, and the implementation of graceful degradation strategies to ensure the platform remains bulletproof as traffic spikes

- Own the strategic integration with Meta , navigating API evolutions and policy shifts while serving as the internal authority on BSP-layer excellence and quality handling

- Work hands-on with technologies like NestJS, Firestore, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Queuing Systems, Data Warehousing Systems and Service Mesh-based microservices

- Elevate operational maturity by evolving observability, Prometheus/Grafana alerting, and incident response to achieve world-class reliability and sub-second signal separation

- Ensure usage is metered accurately and integrates cleanly with Phone Billing and the monetisation platform

- Innovate with AI-driven engineering , leveraging LLMs to accelerate development velocity while building the guardrails necessary to maintain absolute code integrity

- Partner with product, infra, and security teams to ensure data integrity, access control, and compliance across WhatsApp services

- Cultivate high-performing talent , mentoring a team of specialized engineers and fostering a culture of technical rigor, ownership, and rapid career progression

- Mentor and grow a team of high-performing engineers, set clear ownership boundaries across squads, and encourage technical excellence and career growth

- Participate in design reviews, deep dives, and on-call rotations to support a high-bar culture of accountability and operational excellence

Requirements

- 8+ years of backend mastery with 2+ years of high-impact leadership , with a proven track record of shipping fault-tolerant systems in hyper-scale environments

- Architectural depth in distributed systems, event-driven patterns, and massive-scale asynchronous processing

- Obsession with performance : you have successfully optimized availability and latency for systems that grew faster than anyone predicted

- Expertise in data modeling across relational and NoSQL stores, specifically managing high-concurrency transactional data at scale

- Integration scars : hands-on experience mastering external APIs, including handling rate limits, webhook reliability, and complex vendor-side deprecations

- Familiarity with monitoring, SLOs, and root-cause analysis in production environments

- Familiarity with hallucination mitigation strategies (e.g., code constraints, test scaffolding, embeddings, context injection)

- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

- A pragmatic, hands-on leader who balances long-term vision with iterative execution, and who can keep quality high while shipping in a fast-growing product

Preferred Experience

- Direct WhatsApp ecosystem experience — Meta Cloud API, On-Premises deployments, or navigating the complexities of a Business Solution Provider (BSP) model

- Scale-tested messaging expertise : history of building omnichannel conversation platforms or CPaaS products serving millions of users

- Hyper-growth experience : you have kept the lights on and the latency low while a product’s adoption curve went vertical

- Experience working with AI Tools, Communication APIs (Twilio, Plivo etc)

- Contributions to open-source tools, internal platforms, or engineering blogs
