About this role
Join Vehicle Engineering in Berlin to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy where you will help design and launch the next generation of cutting-edge automotive products for Tesla. Our world-class engineering teams operate with a non-conventional automotive product development philosophy of high interdisciplinary collaboration, flat organizational structure, and technical contribution at all levels.
Tesla is looking to hire a rock-star engineer to push the boundaries of lighting, switches and haptics technology. Working alongside the most creative and resourceful designers and engineers in the world on a lean and agile team, You will be responsible for full-system design, from concept definition at the industrial design phase, to prototype creation, production design release and launch for multiple design executions across all Tesla programs.
- Engineer, develop and execute world-class interior lighting and switch assembly systems that meet styling intent and are compliant to regulatory requirements
- Develop novel designs that enable the adoption of new technologies that align with the design theme and compliance standards
- Work through the entire product cycle with critical input early in development by collaborating with Tesla’s design/styling and engineering teams
- Participate in the iterative process with all stakeholders to deliver the optimal balance of form, function, performance and cost
- Direct Tesla and supplier engineering development to enable successful execution
- Maintain all required product development documentation
- Work with cross-functional integration of interior lighting and switches with the Tesla design/styling team, engineering teams such as firmware, body, exteriors, 12V electronics and manufacturing as well as with Tesla supply chain teams and supplier engineers to achieve technical feasible designs.
- First principles, physics-based thinking and problem solving, able to handle problems of varied scope and complexity
- Understanding of latest lighting, switch and haptics technologies including capacitive touch, time of flight, OLED, etc.
- Technical aptitude, excellent communication, creativity in design, and the ability to execute feasible solutions to complex engineering problems
- Experience with complex assemblies including PCBA, sensors, flexible assemblies and enclosures
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing principles including GD&T, assembly and dimensional engineering principles in design
- Proficiency in 3D modeling within a product development environment. Design experience with CATIA V5/V6 strongly preferred
- Understanding of prototyping and production techniques, analysis, and validation (experience with plastics part design and manufacturing processes knowledge is a plus)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics engineering or other relevant engineering discipline
- Demonstrate exceptional ability, management of difficult projects with tight timing constraints and provide examples of notable achievements throughout your career.
- Prior experience in a relevant engineering field is valued, but the team has openings from entry level to expert
- Must have in-depth technical expertise with the latest manufacturing technologies and feasibility execution to achieve systems requirements and world-class craftsmanship and performance targets
- Strong working knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, including familiarity with GD&T and dimensional engineering
- Experience with technical documentation in at least 1 full lifecycle vehicle programs to include DVP&R and DFMEA
- Utilize DFSS methodologies as appropriate during the design, validation and launch of the programs
