About this role

The Field Quality Engineering team mission is to elevate Giga Berlin vehicles’ real-world customer experience by identifying, reducing, and preventing field issues.

This role serves as the critical bridge between field data (service, warranties, telemetry, feedback) and engineering solutions. You ensure customer concerns and failure modes driven by diverse field stressors; driving and climate conditions, road infrastructures, usage patterns, and regulations, are rapidly understood, prioritized, and resolved with permanent fixes that protect customer satisfaction and brand reputation.

As a multi-faceted Engineer, you own the full lifecycle of field issues across vehicle systems. Combining hands-on analysis of parts, full vehicle assemblies, and vehicle data. With systems-level judgment, you drive durable countermeasures that improve quality and durability under real customer-use conditions through close collaboration with design, manufacturing, supplier, firmware, and service teams.

- Monitor product field performance via warranty data, service claims, telemetry/logs, parts returns, and regional feedback. Identify trends early and prioritize by severity, occurrence, detection difficulty, and cost.

- Engage directly with service teams, technical support, and customer populations to map failures by field stressors and demographics, quantifying true customer impact and uncovering environmental or usage-driven root factors.

- Apply automotive systems and failure analysis knowledge (mechanical, electrical, materials, mechatronics, software) to lead root cause investigations. Drive rapid containment and robust corrective actions into production, design, suppliers, and firmware using 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa, fault tree, and similar methods.

- Communicate field metrics, Pareto analyses of failure modes, and risk assessments clearly to engineering peers, cross-functional teams, and leadership. Build consensus and urgency on priorities by championing customers.

- Capture Lessons Learned from field issues and provide proactive “voice of the field/customer” input in design reviews, DFMEAs, PFMEAs, and validation plans. Identify and mitigate reliability, durability, manufacturability, and serviceability risks early to prevent issues from reaching customers.

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering or related discipline; or equivalent high-level hands-on automotive/electrical/mechanical experience.

- Prior hands-on experience preferred in Failure Analysis, Field Quality/Reliability Engineering, Service Engineering, or Quality roles within automotive OEMs, electronics, or EV/high-tech vehicle systems. Experience with real-world vehicle testing, customer-use conditions, or multi-system interactions highly valued.

- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to build trust and drive action across global Tesla teams and external partners.

- Proven strength in structured problem-solving, root cause analysis, and FMEA. Combines meticulous attention to detail with system-level analytical thinking and the ability to synthesize large datasets into actionable insights.

- Proficiency with data management, analysis, and visualization tools (advanced Excel, data warehouses, dashboards). Ability to query, clean, and interpret field/warranty/service data. Python and SQL are strong pluses.

- English at B2 level or higher for confident professional collaboration in an international environment (additional European languages a benefit).

- Driver’s license beneficial.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on real-world problem-solving, understands how vehicles actually behave and fail in customers’ hands under varied conditions, and is passionate about closing the loop from field data back into world-class product design and manufacturing.
