About this role
Tesla’s
Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical raw materials,
component production and qualification activities at suppliers. This role will be responsible for developing,
qualifying, and scaling roll-to-roll/winding/conversion systems at Tesla
supplier locations. In this role, you will work closely with many organizations
both internal and external to Tesla, taking new battery designs from initial
concept to full production.
The
battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems.
This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our

- Review/setup, qualify and scale R2R/web/conversion
related processes for manufacturing of foils, separator, tapes, and other webs.
- Guide suppliers in process development,
equipment selection, and automation, to produce optimal webs at rate to be used
in downstream cell manufacturing at Tesla factories and enabling target cell
product performance.
- Monitor production output at existing
facilities and support expansion programs with existing suppliers.
- Setup In-process quality controls;
qualified required metrology for the same.
- Support R2R related FA at supplier
location.
- Interface with Tesla factory teams that
will use the rolled webs in downstream cell manufacturing.
- Serve as R2R SME within the SIE group
and provide guidance to all SIE web material programs.
- M.S. strongly preferred in mechanical,
mechatronics, industrial, or related engineering discipline
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience
in developing, assembling, and operating automated web guiding, handling,
lamination, and roll-to-roll systems
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or other 3D
CAD software is required; modeling experience of web handling systems is
preferred
- Must be well-versed in statistical data
analysis & process capability analysis; proficient in data analysis tools
such as JMP or Minitab
- Good communication and presentation
skills
- Ability to travel – up to 75%
- Experience in high volume manufacturing is
desired
