About this role
The Failure Analysis Team’s mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve the experience of Tesla’s Vehicle Products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers and Technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety Vehicle Product system like Infotainment, Autopilot, and Body Controllers. This is an individual contributor role with great internal visibility role that requires extensive hands-on work focused on failure analysis and root cause activities for Tesla’s charging application.
We are seeking a multi-faceted individual who will be responsible for leading failure analysis on high-voltage automotive power electronics. This role requires a high degree of independence and self-direction — including standing up the high-voltage FA bench and test capability from the ground up — in addition to performing root-cause analysis on failed HV units.
To be effective in this role, the engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of these electro-mechanical components and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. He/She will work with other Engineering teams to root cause and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, durability of the products.

- Drive issue resolution from root cause analysis to countermeasure implementation on electromechanical components for Tesla’s Charging Products
- Investigate system assemblies, modules, components to identify root cause of failure in Tesla’s Vehicle Products
- Design and conduct fault replication tests experiments on power converters and low voltage PCBA's including board rework and FW/HW testing
- Collaborate with appropriate engineers, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to drive resolution to the identified failure causes
- Provide inputs to design and manufacturing teams to improve design and production yield. Can be achieved through lessons learnt, product teardowns etc. helping to identify risks
- Support design reviews and DFMEAs based on prior failure experience
- Candidate should be detail oriented, and excellent communication skills
- Bachelor's and Master's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, with Master's emphasis in power electronics
/ high-voltage engineering (or equivalent demonstrated HV / power-electronics expertise).
- Demonstrated senior-level work experience in high-voltage electronics / power electronics.
- Deep working knowledge of high-voltage circuits, power electronics topologies, and components.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and PCBA layouts.
- Ability to diagnose failures from system/firmware logs and diagnostic data.
- Basic coding and Linux command-line proficiency.
- Hands-on competence with EE failure-analysis bench equipment: oscilloscope, DMM, LCR meter, plus
high-voltage-specific equipment (hipot tester, insulation/megohm tester, HV differential probes, thermal/IR camera,
curve tracer).
- Working knowledge of high-voltage safety standards and practices (e.g., HV safety procedures, lockout/tagout,
arc-flash / PPE awareness).
- Independence / self-direction — able to define methods, procure equipment, and build out the high-voltage FA bench
with minimal supervision.
Preferred / Value-Add Skills
- PCBA and/or schematic design experience (high-voltage / power stages).
- Strong coding ability.
- Power semiconductor expertise (IGBTs, SiC / GaN MOSFETs, gate drivers).
- Proficiency with EE design tools (Altium, Cadence, etc.).
- Soldering and crimping skills.
- Experience designing or commissioning high-voltage test benches / fixturing.
