Senior Safety & Regulatory Engineer (Functional Safety / CE / Machinery) (m/w/d) - Gigafactory Berlin Brandenburg

We are building advanced robotics. Placing safe, CE-compliant robotic machinery into service in the EU is a critical, gating requirement - this role owns functional safety and regulatory conformity end to end.

Role mission

Own the functional-safety case and CE conformity for our robotic machinery, taking it to a self-certified CE mark backed by a defensible technical file, and set the safety requirements the rest of the team implements.

- Own the safety case to ISO 13849-1 and applicable harmonized standards: determine
required performance levels (PLr) per safety function and validate achieved PL
/ category
- Lead risk assessment and hazard analysis per EN ISO 12100; document residual risk.
- Define the functional-safety (safety-PLC) requirements - protective zones, speed and
motion limits, interlocks, e-stop, safe stop - and verify their implementation
- Author and maintain the CE / EU Machinery Regulation technical file; define and manage
the manufacturer-role boundary with hardware suppliers (partly completed vs
complete machinery)
- Own the EMC and electrical-safety compliance interface against applicable harmonized
standards
- Coordinate any external CE consultant, third-party safety assessment, or notified-body
engagement if required
- Support the safety-authority handoff design (autonomous / teleoperated)

- 6+ years functional-safety engineering on machinery or robotics
- At least one machinery CE sign-off / technical-file ownership taken through to a Declaration of Conformity
- Deep working knowledge of ISO 13849-1, EN ISO 12100, and the EU Machinery Directive / Regulation
- Ability to translate a safety case into concrete, testable requirements for controls and software

Nice to have

- Autonomous or robotic machinery safety experience
- TÜV Functional Safety Engineer certification or equivalent
- Notified-body engagement experience
- German language proficiency
