About this role
The Strickland Place (Skilled Nursing Facility) Life Enrichment Assistant promotes a fun and creative environment by assisting with and leading activities and programs throughout the day, assisting Life Enrichment Coordinator on off campus trips, assists with a targeted R.I.S.E.(Road to Independence, Socialization, and Enrichment) program of residents. .
Status Non-Exempt Hours: Mon-Fri, 9 am – 5 pm - occasional evenings and weekends
Job Relationships
- Reports to the Life Enrichment Manager of Arborview (Memory Care).
- Works directly alongside Life Enrichment Coordinator of Asbury Place (Assisted Living)
- Indirect supervision received from the Healthcare Administrator.
Life Enrichment Assistant Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead group (small and large) activities
- Assists with off campus outings with Life Enrichment Coordinator
- Assists planning and leading RISE programming
- Assists with programming in Asbury Place, Strickland Place, and Arborview
- Assist in communicating and coordinating with volunteers and contract instructors.
- Help organize and present ideas for special events with Life Enrichment Team.
- Promote the resident centered life model.
- Assist in delivery of comprehensive programing that offers physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and vocational needs.
- Work as a team player within Life Enrichment, by meeting on a weekly basis with Life Enrichment Coordinator Asbury Place and/or Life Enrichment Manager
- Collaborates with Life Enrichment Coordinator of Asbury Place in completing resident assessments in a timely manner
- Performs any and all tasks as may be assigned by the Life Enrichment Coordinator of Asbury Place, Life Enrichment Manager, Healthcare Administrator
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists the nursing staff in providing care to geriatric residents using knowledge and techniques for dealing with challenges associated with aging.
- Assists residents with personal grooming and dressing.
- Assists residents with the dining experience.
- Communicates reports of residents conditions, especially any unusual incidents or changes.
- Assess clothing for cleaning needs
- Assists with maintaining residents environment.
- Maintain clean storage areas
- Performs any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as-needed basis by an authorized supervisor.
Typical Physical Demands
- Employee must have the ability and knowledge to lift and move residents safely.
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. of weight, reach and extend hands and arms in any direction, and seize, hold, grip, turn, or otherwise work with hands.
- Be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and bend at the waist.
- Must be able transport residents in a wheelchair between buildings.
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to successfully complete the WorkSTEPS Functional Testing program. This program assists in determining whether applicants/employees are able to safely perform essential job functions.
Life Enrichment Assistant Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Be able to express verbal ideas and impart information to residents and residents families.
- Extensive ability to respond to emergencies rapidly.
- Work habits should include regular attendance, punctuality, teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, dependability, and promptness.
- Must be able to perform mental functions and withstand moderate amounts of stress.
- Adapt to change easily.
- Possess basic computer skills in, Microsoft Word (Windows, Outlook, Excel, Publisher).
- Ability to work weekends and flexible hours.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication and the ability to facilitate small group presentations.
- Enjoys being creative and using ones talent to provide creative ideas for Resident programming.
- Ability to demonstrate consistently in all interactions with others the warmth, caring, outgoing friendliness, and energy that are the hallmarks of Arbor Acres corporate personality and culture.
- Bilingual is a plus, but not required.
Minimum Education
- High School or equivalent education.
Minimum Experience
- One year experience as an activity coordinator or professional
License and/or Certification Required
- Must have a valid NC drivers licenses and be able to drive a 15 passenger bus.
