Evaluation Period: Annual performance evaluations if the student works the entire academic year. If the student works one semester, the performance evaluation will be completed after that semester.
Purpose: To provide high quality tutoring led by paid Mount St. Joseph students to a small group of students in either Math, Literacy or both.
Description:
Mount St. Joseph University, in partnership with Romero Academies and Accelerate Great Schools, is seeking dedicated Tutor Fellows to provide targeted academic support to elementary students (K - 8th grade) during the upcoming school year.
Tutor Fellows will work directly with small groups of scholars on-site at Romero Academies to accelerate student learning and reinforce core skills—with a strong focus on math support. This opportunity allows MSJ education students to gain valuable, hands-on instructional experience while making a direct impact in local Catholic schools.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Small-Group Instruction: Provide high-dosage math tutoring to small groups of scholars (typically 2 to 4 students at a time) or deliver 1-on-1 support based on student needs and classroom schedules.
- Consistent Attendance: Commit to being on-site twice per week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:45 PM – 2:45 PM.
- Instructional Alignment: Utilize school-provided instructional materials and strategies to support targeted student learning goals.
- Progress Tracking & Collaboration: Work with school staff and MSJ supervisors to maintain reliable attendance, track student engagement, and support outcome data collection for grant evaluation.
- Professionalism: Represent Mount St. Joseph University and Romero Academies with a high level of reliability, enthusiasm, and dedication to student success.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Education: Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in Mount St. Joseph University's School of Education (Junior status strongly preferred due to coursework experience).
- Subject Focus: Strong foundational skills and comfort with reading and mathematics.
- Background Checks: Ability to complete all required university and school site background checks/clearances.
- Transportation: Reliable transportation to and from the assigned Romero Academies campus in Cincinnati, OH.
