STEM Instructor (Part-Time)

Department: Youth Programs & Enrichment (YPE)
Reports To: Camp & Youth Program Director

About the Role

The YMCA is seeking an enthusiastic STEM Instructor to lead engaging, hands-on STEM enrichment classes for children ages 6–12. In this role, you will teach coding and 3D design courses, foster creativity and problem-solving skills, and create a positive learning environment where students can build confidence and develop a passion for technology.

Responsibilities

- Lead beginner, intermediate, and advanced coding and 3D design classes.

- Deliver project-based STEM lessons that are fun, engaging, and age-appropriate.

- Support student learning through classroom management, encouragement, and individualized instruction.

- Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and classroom technology.

- Track attendance and student progress.

- Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive learning environment.

- Follow YMCA policies, safety procedures, and child protection guidelines

Qualifications

Required:

- Must be at least 18 years old.

- Experience working with children ages 6–12.

- Knowledge of basic coding concepts and educational coding platforms.

- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.

- Willingness to learn 3D modeling/design software.

- Ability to pass a background screening.

Preferred:

- Coursework or degree in Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Technology, or a related field.

- Experience teaching coding, robotics, digital design, or STEM programs.

- CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and actively participate in youth program activities.
