About this role

The Mechanical Equipment SME brings extensive experience in rotating and static mechanical equipment, with deep expertise across the full mechanical discipline. This role partners with Engineering and Construction on pre-execution project strategy and supports Estimating and Scheduling through the planning and budget phases. The SME tracks and reports market trends and commodity conditions to enable timely procurement, applies the leverage procurement model, and establishes long-term agreements. Success requires strong command of contractual terms and conditions to reduce execution risk; the ability to build durable partnerships while negotiating effectively with contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers; and a drive to research and qualify new suppliers that meet all Tesla requirements. The SME also leads post-execution performance evaluations and reviews.

Develop pre-execution strategies and long-term agreements to support projects   Collaborate with Engineering and Construction on developing scopes of work for proposal  Analyze market trends for mechanical commodities and report findings to other disciplines   Partner with Estimating and Scheduling to establish budgets and project milestones   Apply strong knowledge of contractual terms and conditions to reduce execution risk and enforce agreements when needed   Source and qualify new contractors, suppliers, mills, fabricators, erectors, and manufacturers   Evaluate and report on supplier and contractor performance. Report true cost savings and added value

Bachelor's degree or 10+ years of experience in mechanical equipment procurement Understanding of the complete construction process  Strong negotiation skills. Deep knowledge of contract terms and conditions  Cost analysis experience. Commodity tracking experience  Excellent written and verbal communication  Reporting and presentation skills  Problem-solving ability. Advanced Excel proficiency
