About this role
The Senior Accountant (Shipping) will:
- Monitor day-to-day accounting activities for shipping business, including month-end and year-end closing, general ledger review, accruals, cost allocation and compliance with Group accounting policies.
- Monitor shipping-related AR, AP and prepayments, including hire, freight, demurrage, dispatch, port charges, bunker costs and other voyage-related balances, and follow up closely with shipping operations and traders on the collection and payment status.
- Prepare management reports and provide analysis on business performance, margins, operating costs, working capital and cash flow.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis for shipping operations and relevant trading entities.
- Support voyage accounting and profitability analysis, including review of actual results against budget, forecast and commercial assumptions, highlighting key risks, opportunities and financial drivers to management.
- Review internal controls over shipping accounting processes, identify financial and operational risks, assess potential impact, and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Support statutory audit, tax filing and transfer pricing matters by preparing relevant schedules and supporting documents and liaising with the external parties.
- Support finance operations process improvement and system enhancement projects relating to shipping accounting, reporting, controls and workflow efficiency. Communicate project progress and results to management and supervisors effectively and timely.
- Perform ad hoc duties as assigned by management.
Education, Experience and Skills:
· Degree holder in Accountancy, Finance or related discipline with CPA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional qualification.
· Minimum 6 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably with exposure to shipping industry.
· Experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and management reporting.
· Knowledge of Oracle EBS R12 accounts modules, including AR, AP and GL, and cloud-based ERP systems.
· Experience with Oracle functional reporting, including report design and generation
· Experience in system enhancement or process improvement projects is preferred.
· Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel/Power Pivot. Familiarity with Power Automate, Power Apps and Co-pilot is an advantage.
· Knowledge of Oracle EBS R12 accounts modules, including AR, AP and GL, is a must.
· Experience with Excel4Wands and other finance reporting or ERP tools is an advantage.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
