Job Title: Associate Consultant – Adult Cardiac Surgery
Department: Adult Cardiac Surgery
Reports To: Senior Consultant / Head of Department
Employment Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

- Evaluate adult cardiac surgery patients in OPD, wards, ICU, and emergency settings.

- Conduct detailed pre-operative assessments and develop appropriate surgical management plans in coordination with senior consultants.

- Assist in and perform adult cardiac surgical procedures according to training, experience, and hospital privileges.

- Participate in procedures such as CABG, valve surgery, and other adult cardiac surgical interventions as appropriate.

- Provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative patient management.

- Monitor and manage post-operative patients in the cardiac ICU, including haemodynamic instability, bleeding, arrhythmias, respiratory complications, and other surgical complications.

- Identify and promptly manage post-operative complications, escalating complex cases to the senior consultant when required.

- Participate in emergency cardiac surgical services and on-call duties.

- Coordinate with cardiologists, cardiac anaesthetists, intensivists, perfusionists, nursing teams, and other specialties for multidisciplinary patient care.

- Counsel patients and relatives regarding diagnosis, surgical options, risks, benefits, expected outcomes, and post-operative care.

- Maintain accurate patient records, operative notes, discharge summaries, and other clinical documentation.

- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection-control practices, clinical protocols, and patient-safety standards.

- Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, clinical audits, quality-improvement initiatives, teaching, and academic activities.

- Support the department in maintaining high standards of surgical outcomes and patient care.
